Xbox 360 Elite may be a bigger hit than expected

Giant US retailer Circuit City has stopped taking pre-orders for the 360 Elite as it has apparently sold out of its stock. Could it be that the 360 Elite will take off, contrary to the skepticism of many? The addition of HDMI and a black finish may be just what the doctor ordered in the fight against PS3 and Wii.

It doesn't tell us how many orders there are. For all we know, their pre-order alottment was 5 units. Or it could have been 500. IF SOMEONE KNOWS, PLEASE SAY.

Besides, I think it will do decently. It's a new model. New models cause a sales spike. Even if a product is doing poorly, a new model will generally cause at least a tiny spike.

Thing is, without recent huge releases to drive sales, I don't think the spike will be huge. Everyone who has a game they need to play on the Xbox360 already has one. Anyone who is on the fence, is probably waiting for Bioshock or Halo3 or something, and will probably buy an Elite...but not yet. The only truly distinctive feature about the Elite is that it has a HDMI port. I don't think that's going to cause the second coming of Xbox360 all by itself.

Initial buyers of the Elite will be people who:
- are current 360 owners who must have the latest and greatest
- were going to buy an Xbox 360 within the last month, but when they heard about the Elite, they decided to wait for it (which I'm sure probably caused a sales slump...which happens when upgraded hardware is announced well ahead of its release)
- are current 360 owners who really want the HDMI output
- are current 360 owners who want more disk space, and aren't buying the cheaper HD add-on, either because they feel it's a rip off, or they're getting a good trade-in offer, or some combination with the above reasons
- are new (or soon to be) 360 owners who just coincidentally want to buy the 360 right as the Elite is becoming available

Good enough now? :D We are having some problems with links but it'll all be resolved soon. And I've got plenty of pics. This one seems to be the best (That girl is way hot isn't she?). I might get some Canadian ones up later since I'm also Canadian.

The few people i know who have bought a PS3 and the few i know who are thinking of getting one have all got one reason in common.

They think because the PS3 has arrived a year after the 360 means it must be better, (believe me there are lots of them) so what MS has done is give them what they will now think is the latest and therefore the best console.
