Guitar Hero II publisher RedOctane has admitted that some users are experiencing problems with a patch released for the Xbox 360 version over the weekend.
The update, released on Saturday, was supposed to help users whose copies of the game were refusing to acknowledge input from the Xplorer controller's whammy bar. However forum threads quickly sprang up on Xbox.com and the official Guitar Hero website complaining that the patch was followed immediately by system freezes and, in some cases, the dreaded ring of death - the only answer to which is returning the console to Microsoft.

With a Title called "RedOctane Admits To Guitar Hero II Patch Problem"
I thought that the article would have something that substantiated it. Please rename to "Rumors suggest the patch may cause problems". Red Octane certainly hasn't admitted to a problem with it's patch.

Well a great game (which you can't play, but you're not worth it) may brick in some cases a more greater console. **** happens. Until they don't switch over to Sony the world is fine ;). Go and play your good Ps3 games- oh sorry I forgot you have none

Silly n00b with XxnamexX didn't read the post. He never said it came out on another console first. Change your name to something like &^%$#@!Name!@#$%^& that would be very original. You play backups on your 360 and it is useless? Why play backups on it if it is so useless?

just ignore the haters, there just trying to justify spending 600 for a console that plays the same games on the 360 for 200 less with better performance

oh god another one...
it doesn't brick the console... the only way that would be possible is if the patch somehow started writing over the system bios or something else that critical..
considering the 3 lights are a memory overheat error... this does not compute!!
oh all the *'s in my previous post were not actual words lol... I held shift+8 and threw in some spaces..

my system upgraded fine along with all the other people i know that have gh2 for the 360
I just don't understand RedOctane’s reasoning behind a software patch for a hardware problem. How does a software patch fix a known hardware issue? It doesn’t make much sense to me. My best guess is that the ‘patch’ they released will merely adjust the way the game reacts to how the whammy bar is pressed. This would mean that the game would be more sensitive to how far the bar is depressed so that even the slightest press of the bar would cause the note ‘distortion’ / ‘wobble’… I still don’t see how that could truly fix the admitted ‘calibration issue’ of the defective guitars…. To me this means that Guitar Hero II would function fine with the defective guitars, but when Guitar Hero 3 or any other game that would use these guitars, is released all of the defective guitars would still be defective & experience the same whammy bar problem.
As far as the lock-ups and red lights of death... So far it's all just rumors.. I haven't updated yet, but I doubt I will until this issue is resolved.

Weird, this really doesn't make sense. My game updated fine i know several others who's updated perfectly fine also. I don't understand how a game that patches it self, and has nothing to do with the BIOS, at all just doesn't make sense. But maybe the patch updated the Kernal to fix issues with the Whammy Bar?

I highly doubt MS would allow a 3rd party to update the kernel... besides a kernel error is not 3 flashing lights...

Plays the same games? Yes you are right, only the PS3 owners can play them without the thought of their systems crapping out.
$200 less, but even after 1.5 years, original problems still exist, not only that, but when you send in a defective console, they return to you a refurbished defective console. Better made hardware = Higher price.
Paying $200 less with a 50% possibly of needing to have it repaired within a year or so is in no way "better performance".
This is coming from a fanboy perspective either, it's just called common sense.
The god damn money this company has, there is no excuse for this. Game patches killing systems, discs getting destroyed, system overheating, very loud, best game for the system is loaded with online glitches, backwards compatibility is a joke at this point, charging for game updates such as Map Packs???, charging for Online Play, etc...
Now how is this "better performance" I must ask?

Better performance?,But if they know all, that the Ps3 is the consose most powerful, and then not to forget that the first Xbox 360 were defective, one friend of mine has had to change two of them!.

he meant with games... 360 games have less framerate issues then the PS3 versions..
