Okay let me start off saying that I am a PS2 and XBOX guy.. I have pretty much done everything I could with those systems.. and so I figured that the gamecube would be simple..

and from the posts I've read.. it should be..

but it's not turning out that way..

I've installed the qoob chip and the qoob menu shows up.. I've installed the latest 1.2 bios (I even have tried 1.0 and 1.1) ..

yet when I try to load up a game, it spins the disc, then it stops.. spins it again and then says Disk Read Error :( <-- as if I need that sad face there.. haha..

ANYWAYS.. I changed the image from GCN to ISO and burned it using NERO 6.6 with the finalize disc option checked.. (there are no other options..) I even tried making a multi disc just to try something different but no..

I've only tried DVD+R media.. I've tried 2 different Burners.. an HP dvd300i and a plextor (I dunno the model) ..

I was thinking maybe I have to play with the laser?? is there documentation on the net about what to adjust?

thanks..

have you tried different brands/media types or just one? it might be that your cube is not compatible with the current media. i would test out other media before messing with the laser. mine reads my media fine without any laser adjustments.

Goto the Viper forum and download the FAQ guide from the Mod That Cube sticky thread. Most Gamecubes will not read DVD-+R out of the box, unless you've tuned the laser. Most people will have good results when tuned down to 200 Ohms, your miles may vary. My cube always give me DRE before laser adjustment. Now, I haven't gotten a single DRE after tuning.

As others have said some cubes won't read dvd+r as std (mine inc' - I use Ritek dvd-r go4/go5's and it loves em.

It's better to stick with -r media, seems like most people have far less problems using this type.

Make sure you have the correct media first Im using Traxdata mini dvd-r they use a ritec ink,
I runing a qoob pro with 1.1 bios If I dont hold b for boot menu when loading a backup and manualy select the bios I get a DRE. Might be worth a shot

yeah i'd definitly get -r ritek media.
if the fails, tweak your laser. Last option could be getting a different burner
