In a dutch television program looking into the matter of 'X360 disc scratching', once confronted about the situation, an Microsoft exec was forced Microsoft into admitting this problem.

"Seeing as we weren't involved in the experiment Kassa conducted and have little insight in the means used, we are not capable of responding to these findings in great detail. As a result of regular use it is possible that scratches on the disc may start to appear. However, Kassa's experiment shows no indication that these things occur on a big scale. Evidently it's important to us that our customers get the best possible gaming experience and thus we take the test results very seriously. Xbox owners who claim their discs have been similarly scratches as indicated by Kassa, should contact us. We will research your console and if necessary repair it to a completely working condition. As a plus, we will inform Xbox owners on how they can acquire replacement discs if they should need them.

Seems to only happen when you move the system from what i've seen but maybe the problems worse than once thought. Its clearly the machine when the scratches are in a perfect circular pattern.

In my opinion, instead of Microsoft constantly claiming "We will fix it for you", they should just make their console right the first time.

the choice of image is rather funny here, the guy seems to have his hand in an interesting place too ;).

I guess this news isn't an official statement tho, so it cant really be taken as a guarentee that your problems will be resolved. Didnt MS already say they will replace first party games if theyre scratched for a fee of £10 anyway? I have alsoo read that a few other companies will replace disks for a fee.

I really hope that isn't true. Why should someone need to pay £10 for a disc replacement if MS's console damaged it?

If your that dumb to move the unit around with the disc spinning inside, then you deserve to get the disc scratched.

they have been scratching disks without moving the console too, although i bet the majority of the problems come from people moving or knocking the machines over while its playing.

It's not about making scratches because of letting the 360 do salto's:

The Kassa Scratches Test
Despite of the thousands of complaints, and the many messages about it on the internet, Microsoft kept with the statement: "when placed stable, the Xbox can't produce scratches on discs". And thus Kassa gets to work: during three days we've tested with nine gamers, first in a lab situation, and later in a housechambersituation, the scratchstability of the Xbox. The results show that even when the Xbox was placed stable, there most certainly got (circleshaped) scratches caused on multiple games.

From the specifications known by Kassa, it shows that the problems are mostly showing up at Xbox's that were produced at the end of last year, with the disreputable TSST-drive. Therefore we sended Microsoft a list of specific questions, on which we would've liked to get answers. We didn't get answer to those questions. But the company did make a statement eventually. And that one is striking:

So it happens mostly with xbox's made at the end of last year and also if you don't move them...

what about the worser problem the 3 red lights of death did they admit to it yet or thats still been ignored ?? it will be very sad to see the ELITE xbox 360 with 3 red lights which both the premium & the core suffers from.

Sorry there is no way under normal usage your going to sratch the disc. The disc needs be tilted to scratch, which is not going to happen if your not moving the console.

If the Elite still has the stupid X-Clamp mounts, then we might still see some 3ROL Elites. MS should of known that those X-Clamps would cause MB bend. I replaced my mounts right from the start.

Uh...this has been known since December 2005? O_o Discs naturally get scratched when someone turns their 360. But of course the fanboys like Satel and Blades had to make an appearance. They only post when there's "Bad" news for the 360, too bad they never read the article.

Certainly it is a problem, but if it is guilt of the console, microsoft should free replace the dvds game!

well all i got to say is. for one, my 360 has worked fine since day one(knock on wood). I flashed my **** right and didn't have some other chump do my dirty work. as far as anything else i use verbs at full speed using the only reliable program(imgburn). My PC is also average so I know low burn speeds are just a myth. Burn full speed boys, I do it for all my backups! I'm sure this applies to users that go all "legit". I dont know, my 360 has never crashed on me. How relevant this is to the thread is unknown and doesn't matter...

Tests? O_o

Anyway, they never mentioned anything about the DVDs being scratched while the 360 isn't being moved. Which is why I think the guy wasn't submissive about it at all, they asked about the 360 scratching discs and he responded accordingly because it CAN, just like any DVD Player, and they took what he said out of context.
