Halo 3 Will Put Xbox 360 Further Ahead of PS3

Rob Enderle of Digital Trends has made some interesting comments concerning the battle between the Xbox 360 and PS3. He seems to think that (basically) Sony has no 'counter' to the Halo series, and that once Halo 3 is released, the 360s user-base will surge even further ahead of the PS3s.


Halo was the game that made the original Xbox; it was the one thing the PlayStation 3 still lacks - the game that defines the playing experience. While there are a lot of good games out for the Xbox 360, including Halo 2, it will be Halo 3 that will possibly go the farthest to define the power of that platform.

Xbox's problem isn't the fact that Halo sells so well. It's the fact that it's mainly games LIKE halo that sell. So while they are happy to see a million seller from first person shooters, what has stopped XBox from being #1 is the diversity in quality games. I think this will change slightly this generation though, as companies are more open to multi-platform releases to overcome the very high development costs.

Gran turismo strings to mind when you define the playstation experience, but i dont think its as noticable since sony manage to produce/publish a few other high calibur games like god of war, ratchet and clank, shadow of the collus/ico etc. If you only produce one good game for a system then obviously it will stand out more.

Exactly, god damn it. PS3 has GAMES IN DEVELOPMENT if you didnt notice Mr. "Im a retarded Digital Trends Man". I didnt mean to say that but I mean theres games coming out for PS3.

The graphics dont look that great in Halo 3 anyway, but I hope the game offers new elements or it will be Halo 2 in 1080i lol.

Theres loads of game like "Killzone 2" which actually looks good from in game shots. And those PS3 third party exclusives in which fanboys want on 360.

Just because it aint been out for a year yet and Sony spent loads on PS3 doesnt exactly mean Sony aint gonna pull nothing out of their ass to counter Microsoft! Of course they're gonna do something about it!! No Rumble in SIXAXIS = Sony settled with Immersion to bring back Rumble and Force Feedback to PlayStation Products. Online Equilivent of XBOX LIVE = Home and PlayStation Network, free of charge and developing PS2 BC graphic issues, people moaned about it = Sony sorted problem in FW 1.5 Waiting for Downloads to complete in PS Store = Problem fixed with background downloading in Firmware 1.6


Im not a fanboy at all but I'm just making a bloody point. Sony eventually do something about problems with the PS3, and I'm sure they'll find a way to sell the product eventually.

the movies of halo3 are old now arnt they?, wait untill the beta hits live before you judge its graphics. Any game that pushed the 360 hardware only seems to result in vast amounts of dead machines anyway, maybe they should keep it nice and simple...

Some issues I have with that article:

- Halo2 is an Xbox 360 game? I had no idea..
- Halo3 will be massively multiplayer? again, I had no idea..
- He overestimates the importance of PC/console multiplayer

Multiplayer is about getting into matches and playing with friends. If you have a friend who wants to play Resistance on a Sony console, and you have a PC.. I doubt the solution is "let's both buy Xbox 360's and Shadowrun" to solve the dilemma. You either just play with others, or your friend gets the platform you already have.. The biggest benefit of making the platforms compatible is just a larger pool of gamers.

the problem is ps3 fans are the general white trash, brown trash, black trash, brown-white-black trash pretending to be mtv trash. they will believe any lie sony tells them as long as its "flashy" and "pimped out".they will think the ps3 is cool no matter what.

the second problem is nintendorks. these are some of the most horrendously dedicated mindless, idiotic and purposeless beings on the planet ever since evangelicals started obsessing about jesus. they can get fisted in their asses by nintendo and STILL call it some sort of a revolution. theyre basically paying NEW prices for old games and OLD hardware. they know it, but hey, like i said. theyre like goddamned christ worshipping evangelical rednecks.

the third problem is, microsoft is HATED. its HATED, because its a rich company. xbox did well, but not too well because people never gave it a chance. they hated the console for the parent company. THAT EXACTLY is the reason, theyre sarcastic, negative and downright hateful towards the 360, and its hardware which is just as powerful as the ps3. the xbox360's only folly is the name microsoft attached to it, thats why people hate it, and will always hate it. and the fact that it has had some of the best games to come out in the last almost 2 years doesnt mean anything. its just uncool to some.

in my opinion, the 360 is the best games wise right now. when that changes, i shall gladly change my opinion. i love the 360 because it allows me to play games as spec heavy as rainbow six vegas, without needing to upgrade to a thousand dollar pc. (i have a great pc, but it still doesnt run rainbow six as good as it does on the 360). also 360 has a really great live service and community, its good enough for me at least (MUCH MUCH better than nintendo's laughable online ventures and sony's confusing mess of a live service. and as long as the 360 allows for great games like gears, vegas, oblivion, lost planet to be played, without spending a shiitload of cash on it (pc, ps3) i shall love it. at least theyre not charging me 200 pounds to get a gamecube, with a new controller and nintendo 64 games.

If you read it again, it's clear he just mentions playing Halo 2 on the 360, not calling it a 360 game. Plus, there are parts of Halo 2 which are 360 only, such as the new maps. Other then that, you're right about most things, calling the multiplatform multiplayer useless, whatever you say. :rolleyes: It is great that you'll be able to do that actually. Someone that has Gears on the 360 and gets it for Vista would be able to play together, what's not cool about that? If he overhyped it, so fuckin what? What people don't overhype anymore? Funny how once someone defends Sony or the PS3 they are instantly a a fanboy, meanwhile claiming Halo 3 = God and will enable 360 to trample the PS3 is perfectly fine and normal.

As for Madonna project... you claim Sony has the most horrible hardware and that Nintendo users are the most useless trash on the planet. How the hell do you figure that? So 6.5million people are stupid and you... and only you and all 360 owners are better? Please explain why, and as you do that, try your best to explain how the 360's hardware is better made than the PS3's. Frequent console return, repairs, hardware failing due to "official" updates... all of which plague the 360 while PS3 problem stay at a constant minimum.
