Alright guys,
The re-write is finally done and the package will be sent out for distribution soon. (after more testing)
Meanwhile, I've included the new readme...
Feel free to post comments and suggestions.

Let me be the first to congratulate you with this new version, I read the readme and it's crystal clear.
But why exactly do you need a trash bin?
Just for safety?
I'il test it on some pal xbox's.

screw testing...
If anyone can't wait, here's the installer minus the "questionable" files.
Read "requirements.txt" to learn what files are needed and where to put them.
*updated 1-14-2004 (fixed empty dir issue) (added zipped fonts and xbedump)

To answer Blackhawk's question..
The trashbin is needed so that I can clear old files that u don't want in the backup dir. Since I still don't know how to make Evo-X delete files, I must move them instead.

this great, all i can say is congrats, i am planning on using this method to mod a friend's xbox, a few questions, i cant seem to get the 2bl stuff so i can edit the bfm bioses
aaand are the two xip files the origonal ones that the xbox has when you buy it from the store?

Find a working boot.cfg file to obtain the correct RC4 and EEPROM keys. It is included with a few other packages if u need it, PBL and Morden's for example.
The 2 xip files should be the exact size as I listed. Most likely the originals from your Xbox should work, those files are the same from the first dash upto 4920. I can't promise that every Xbox isn't shipped with 5659, But I haven't seen or heard of any that come with it. Most seem to be 4920 nowadays

I can't seem to get this save onto a memory card... I've added all the "questionable" files to the original zip... and when I try to put it on the mem card, it almost finishes then it says error copying... which is wierd because if I use the one without the files.. it copies fine...
any idea how to fix this? I'm using the AR software, BTW...

The entire package should only be around 5.5 megs when all files are in place. (with 256k BIOS's)
Even if u made 1 meg BIOS files, it should still fit.
Check to make sure your card is empty and try again.
If it still doesn't work, hold out till my beta-testers get the package uploaded to the usual places, which should be soon after they finish testing it.

Ok, I see someone posted the "fonts" over at x-s.
DO NOT USE THEM!!!
They haven't been decompressed and will not work. If u don't want to or can't use the installer, use the ones below .
After installing them to C:\fonts , rename the original fonts with the extension of "bak".
They will run Habibi-signed xbe's in this order...
1st, Retail game OR D:\default.xbe (habibi-signed from the DVD along side of a copy named "catfish.xbe"
2rd E:\Hakurs\default.xbe
3th E:\default.xbe
4th E:\Phoenix\default.xbe (default install point)
No, I'm not vain... Because retail DVD's would generate error 21, I had to change the DVD filename the exploit looked for. I am rather happy about this as this lets u habibi-sign most xbe's and burn them to CD or DVD and u never have to launch PBL. U can even power-up with one of these disks in the drive and the fonts still kick in.

*note*
No matter what the original Anonymous release said, I have NEVER been able to make these fonts boot Evo-X directly. I may be confused and if so, please tell me how u accomplished this. *edit, thanks to shag, I have been able to load Evo-X, but only from CD, I gave up on Evo-X long before I found the bootable CD thing, so never bothered to try it.* **re-edit: Evo-X will load if the MSDashBoard= option is commented out (# in front) or points to a non-existent xbe**
Oh, and I have made a "bootable" CD that loads PBL 1.3 which in turn runs Evo-X from DVD first. I really suggest EVERYONE who uses these fonts to make their own with their own personal backups on it.
I may release a script and dir structure for everyone to make creating one easier. Everyone is welcome to create an ISO for public release using anything I've posted . I just ask that u at least verify it works before releasing it.
**I also ask that none of my work be posted at xbox-scene, but u can post a link to maxconsole if u wish**
**XanTium has my permission to post my work on his main site**

I won't make any promises about the clock-loop.
But until we have verified proof that these fonts fail on any Xbox I'll have to say yes, they avoid it very well.
I have been testing these for about a month and I've forced about a dozen clock-resets during that time (2-6 loops). I have found that powering off before looping is more likely to bring a dead clock out in 3 loops or less. In the readme I have mentioned a "no-boot" loop which is more likely to occur than a reset clock.
No matter what, I still recomend getting a backup onto your PC as soon as posible.

These fonts have the security checks disabled thanks to PedrosPad. Also, these new fonts will boot backups directly, which in the case of Crimsom Skies may be the answer everyone is looking for :-Þ
I have also changed the default.xbe locations a bit, to avoid conflict with the first release.
I can't even remeber if the first release would boot retail games, but I know in the new ones, I discovered that they wouldn't until I changed them.

If anyone gets the installer to start PBL and PBL freezes, check the boot.cfg file and verify the BIOS is good.
Dbl-check "required.txt" for sizes and path locations for files and boot order for the edited BIOS.
There are several packages in the "usual places" which contain a working boot.cfg file. Obtain this and use the keys in XBtool to edit your BIOS.
The BIOS versions listed in "required.txt" is only for my beta-tester to assure compatibilty with all versions. Anyone making the package for themselves only needs a BIOS compatible with their own system.

12-10-2003, 03:35 AM
I also forgot to mention,
If u want to avoid the ST.DB corruption causing error 21, make 26 copies of E:\Phoenix\default.xbe and rename each one with 1 letter of the alphabet, a-z. ("e" should already exist)
This will only prevent error 21, not the other type of corruption.
Would anyone object to this being done automatically in the official release? It only consumes about 8 meg of space, but kinda clutters up the E:\Phoenix dir.

right. I had the mechfonts installed manually as described in bluhdebluhs thread on X-S.

Anyways, what I did was habibi signed evoxdash.xbe and renamed it to catfish.xbe. Then renamed the original evoxdash.xbe to default.xbe. And place these two xbe's along with evox.ini onto a cdrw. Booting up with this cd in the drive works, it loads up evox. Sometimes it doesnt but i suspect that is due to the cdrw.
I also tried habibi signing pbl 1.3.5i and renaming it to catfish.xbe.. This also works.. ie. causes evox to load..
I cannot get it to boot without a habibi signed xbe named catfish.xbe on the cd.
So how does it actually work? Does it check for the file catfish.xbe which must be habibi signed, then loads the default.xbe? Originally I thought it would execute catfish.xbe, but from signing the pbl 1.3.5i and renaming it catfish.xbe, it doesn't.
Thanks,
Shag
oops.. im wrong..
it does execute the pbl that i signed..
must've confused myself by all the attempts in creating a bootable cd :p
hmm.. this is confusing me even more...
ok the cd i have 3 files..
catfish.xbe -> habibi signed evox
default.xbe -> audio signed pbl 1.3.5i
evox.ini
when i boot off this cd it tries to load default.xbe...
i'm getting some strange results here...
could you clarify what is suppose to happen? i'm gonna do some more testing..
thanks,

The fonts will allow a retail DVD to load, this file is always named "default.xbe".
They check for for the presence of "catfish.xbe" before running default.xbe. If found, then habibi key is used.
*edited for accuracy, thanks shag*
The fonts only patch the public key when Live is selected or when it detects "catfish.xbe" on the DVD. They also appear to check both xbe's to make sure they are xbe's but only "default.xbe" needs to be habibi-signed.
hi, thanks for the reply.. i have some very strange results.. in my testing i'm trying to load xbmp.
1. i first habibi signed evoxdash.xbe and named it catfish.xbe.
2. copied catfish.xbe and all the xbmp onto the cdrw.
3. boot off the cd and get this error about your xbox needs servicing..
4. so i go and habibi sign the xbmp default.xbe.
5. boot off cd again, and now it loads xbmp!
6. hmm.. ok, so i decided to remove catfish.xbe, renamed it to catfish.old..
7. burnt the cd again
8. boot off it, now it wont boot the cd..
from your reply, you mention that it should execute catfish.xbe? but it doesn't for me.. i've tried different combinations with same result so far..
all i can say is weird...

make sure the CD is made from an xISO image and not normal ISO/UDF.
Also, default.xbe needs to be habibi-signed, I did some more tests from DVD and that's what appears to run first.
I'll go back and fix all my previous mistakes, as well as update the readme in the first post
oh yeah, I can get Evo-X to run now, but only from optical media. I even copied the file from the DVD to my Xbox and it gets error 21 as well as a M$ signed Live dashboard.

cool man.. well i think u can have any habibi signed xbe named catfish.xbe in there.. so you don't need to make a copy of default.xbe and name it catfish.xbe..
since i remember i had signed pbl 1.3.5i and named it catfish.xbe, then had evox's default.xbe in there, and evox loaded fine.. (NOTE: i couldn't get pbl 1.3.5i to load from testing.. it looks for the boot.cfg file, but doesn't seem to search it's current directory (D:\ ) instead it looks for P:\boot.cfg if I remember correctly)
and oh.. i've been using nero to burn the cdrw.. as UDF, and i check that xbox checkbox.. seems to work ok..
ill be doing more testing when i have time..

hmmm
i just tried signing crimsonskies (pal version) 's default.xbe with xbedump (xbedump.exe default.xbe -habibi).
For some reason it reports the xbe's integrety as false after signing it.
i put it back in the gamedir and made a copy of it witch i renamed to catfish.xbe. made an iso with craxtion.
burned it to a dvd-rw
when i boot the game straight from msdash the xbox does recognise the disc as i get the ms screen but right after that it goes into error 21 and a green-red flashing led.
So has anywone actually managed to get Crimson skies to work using this method?

Guys, the package on Xbins is incorrect.
DO NOT USE IT!
you have been warned...

the files appear to work fine, although BIOS'es are a bit large. U can use this package to obtain the "required" files for my zip and it should work fine.
In case anyone wonders what is wrong with the xbins release besides the BIOS size, it's the directory structure.
Some directories were omited that will cause errors when restoring or "forcing" a dashboard install.

OK, the package in the "usual" place has been removed (thank u very much guys from the "usual" place), and the original from here put in it's place.
I'm no longer worried about ppl messing up their Xbox.
If anyone wants to upload just the required files, feel free.
Upload your files with a name something like "Joe's catfish required files" or maybe even "Joe's_catfish_M7_expansion" (to describe the BIOs inside)
Again, I only ask that it be tested before being released. And please make the BIOS'es 256k.
One more request... If u plan on distributing the entire package, keep all my files intact, including the empty directories.
Hey man, I think this is the great package I've finally been looking for, but I seem to be having a problem locating a "requirement."
i'm not going to say the exact name because I'm not sure if it's actually allowed. It's in the requirements.txt file, and it is the first required .bin file.
i've looked in all the "usual" places but I can't seem to find it.
I'm probably totally way off base here, and in the wrong topic, but just looking for some help i guess.

The swapless audio exploit has been made as stable as the original. Read up on it here:

For those using my installer who can't hex-edit, I've posted them here.
Copy E:\Phoenix to E:\ and rename "e" to "default".
Replace your current swapless.DB in E:\Phoenix\originals with the one below. Select "re-install CD/swapless exploit" to activate.

Read the whole thread, the installer is in the 3rd post and the details are in the rest.
Catfish,
Beautiful job.
2 questions for you, that I think would benefit noobs that have less than hands on experiance (myself included):
Hotswapping:
Mainly for those of us that don't have an action replays, memory card, or even MA...
Can you use the hdd hotswap trick, dump the files on the xbox hd, and then load them directly from the hd w/o a memory card?
I'm still guessing that I'll need to buy MA to actually boot the savegame itself, even if directly off the hd.
click here (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=45&t=73720) for the hdswap i'm talking about.
Upgrading to a bigger HD
I want to make sure I have an ultra clean copy of my original drive so I can throw it back in if the **** really goes down. As I understand it you typically would want evox installed on your hard drive before you attempt to upgrade to a bigger one (self defeating for my purpose) so you can format F.
Step 2
Turn off your mod-chip if you have one.Power up your Xbox and load the hacked save "Inst Phoenix". Click "Backup EEPROM" immediately.
If you are reading this while running the installer, click here and gather your Xbox EEPROM info. You can also transfer your contents of the Xbox to your PC. If this is a new mod, now would be the time to clone the drive to a larger one and keep the original for a backup.
Now you mention transfering the contents of your xbox to the pc... via ethernet/ftp I'm assuming? Also, is this a clean/super virgin backup?
Also, you mention this being the ideal time to clone the drive to a bigger one... is this essentially the prime point to hit a tutorial like:
click here (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=45&t=89141&st=0)
I guess the money question is, does your installer format f: via evox in step 3? Or can you continue the install normally and then deal w/ F: once its all done?
Many thanks again for such a solid package!

Thank u for the compliment.
Your question about hot-swapping...
Yes, hot-swapping can be done with my installer, but it's alot easier and can very handy once it's on a memcard.
I would use Linux to transfer the files. Ed's Debian 0.4.1 has the ability to boot into a very nice GUI on your PC without needing to be installed. The newer versions may also support this.
If u want all the features of my installer, then MA is needed. It is used to run the font installer/decompressor and it also contaiins the dashboard updater required to install dash 4920.
If you're sure your dash is 4920, u can use hot-swap to manually install everything. Use the decompressed fonts posted earlier in this thread (follow the instructions). Copy the Phoenix dir from the gamesave to E:\ and then make a copy of "default.xbe" and name it "e" . (after u have obtained all the required files)
Now about upgrading the HD...
U need to mod your box to obtain the EEPROM info required to gernerate a password for a new drive. I can't think of any other way to do it without desoldering the EEPROM from the motherboard.
If u run my installer, I have created HTML pages within the game-save. They have direct links to all the important files and if u can connect via Internet Explorer, u can copy the contents of your Xbox to your PC quite easily.
The tutorial in the link u provided is missing a step (typical), so I've decided to re-post my guide for upgrading from a stock HD, look for it in Xbox general chat.
As for formatting options, both th installer and the default installation have format options for F: and G:. There is also a rebuild E: option which will copy the mechsave and a few empty dirs to X:, format E: and then rebuild the dir structure from the copied files.
Many thanks for the great reply... looks like I'm on my way to a catfish xbox! :D
Quick catchup.. tried every variation i could think of for this and several other ma packages.. every single time i get an error 21 right when i load the exploit. I've tried everything I can think of.. the only thing I notice that strikes me as odd is the action replay software. It reports the savegame as having 212blocks while on the pc, and when it's copied to the memory card its around 208. Once its copied to the xbox its a diff number, and if i bring it back again its different still. They are all small deviations... could this be the source of my agonizing pain? How can i be sure?
Many thanks all!

maybe just try with hot-swapping the files into place, after u remove all traces of the corrupted saves from your Xbox.
Looks like I made my life even more interesting... I was reading a tutorial on xbox-scene that mentioned needing to upgrade to live1.0 for the mech exploits to work (aparently it was a really old tut). I let it upgrade and now i have dash: 1.00.5659.03

you're not...
My installer has this situation in mind. Make sure u obtain the required files and MA will be able to downgrade your dash to 4920, U need to get the entire package onto the HD and avoid your error 21 issue first.
*edit*
what game title updgraded u to 5659? MA?
Okay, the xip files you are refering to. I thought they were actually from the xbox itself though? Obviously can't grab them until my box is running evox, so i'm assuming they are avilable by some other means. Know of any packages off hand that have them? I think i've downloaded verything from the usual places and still havn't seen them.
Also, how would i know if my box is a beast pack that isnt going to work with the package?
Many thanks again catfish!
After more research it may be possible i have the wrong version of mech assault (didn't even realize there were more than one). If i can track down an older version i can exploit into evox and then download the .xip files for use w/ your installer.. at least thats the working thought.

Stop using that AR memory unit and it should work.
Error 21 = game-save exploit is functioning but files are missing/corrupted/signed incorrectly.
U have 2 choices... replace the memcard or hot-swap the files in.
U CANNOT obtain the 2 xips from a system with dash 5659.

Sure, anyone can downgrade with hot-swap.
I don't recommend it though. Your safest bet is to hot-swap a game-save exploit in and gain access that way. If u mess that up, the only problem is the game-save exploit won't work. If u mess the downgrade up, error 21 is possible, causing more grief than it's worth.
Do some research and u may find that your kernel version (5530) will probrably prevent Phoenix BIOS Loader from running. http://forums.maxconsole.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=721
Obtain a game-save exploit (without PBL) and buy the appropriate game, it will save u alot of headaches.
If u must hot-swap, use Linux to transfer the files.

ok i have read through a couple of forums and i haven't gotten a clear answer as to exactly what i need to do to a 5530/5659 xbox. i have used morden's on three already (all were kernel 4034) and it works fine but this one prevents the use of phoenix so mordens is out. i used mechassault with evox gamesave (no phoenix in it) to gain access to the hard drive and downgraded the dash to 4920. normally i would slap mordens in here and be done but i still would have the problem with the dern kernal and phoenix not liking each other. is it possible to get a version of an audio exploit installer without phoenix in it that 5530'ers can easily use? catfish i have gotten your installer but am not sure exactly what it does. i see something about the audio exploit and the fonts but i would like to stay away from the fonts if i can. since i have ftp access can i just manually install the audio exploit and evox on a 5530? any help would be appreciated.

Your post has prompted me to determine the problem with these fonts and Evo-X. As it turns out, they can load Evo-X directly, provided that the reference to the M$ dash is invalid or commented out of evox.ini.
Place a # in front of MSDashBoard= and all is fine. U may also alter the xbe name to point to a non-existent xbe
jsyyyn:
The first thing u need to do is downgrade to 4920, which I see u have... This is probrably the coolest feature of my installer. If u provide 2 xip files, it will force dash 4920 on any system. As for what else it does, everything should be in the readme at the beginning of this thread.
Don't be scared of these fonts yet. The only problems I have seen are from ppl who installed them incorrectly.
This installer can be converted to non-PBL easily.
!. Sign Evo-X (evoxdash.xbe) with the habibi key, place this in the root of the game-save dir. (..\4d530017\082F8754F1D1\)
2. Make a copy of the signed xbe and name it default.xbe. Place this copy in ..\4d530017\082F8754F1D1\inst\Phoenix\ .
3. run the game-save and goto "Exploit Utils". Scroll down and select "Run Mech/Phoenix game-save"
4. Selct which exploit u wish to install.
There should only be 3 issues.
1. The dashupdate app will generate error 21 as it's not signed. U can however, still use the force dashboard options and then run any retail game with the Live 1.0 update and it should work for installing 4920.
2. The option that says Launch PBL will actually launch Evo-X. (as well as any reference to Phoenix, assume it means Evo-X)
3. If u use the fonts, u must edit the evox.ini as stated in my response to denky above.
I still see a need to have an installer without PBL, so I may make a new version of my installer for both 007 and Mech Assault soon.
P.S. I forgot to mention that every xbe will need to be signed with the habibi key if u do not use Phoenix BIOS Loader. Read the next post.

After some more thought, I realise that a new installer isn't needed. Instead, I will make a 007 save that simply points to the Mech save and I'll write another readme.
This means 2 things, the dashupdate app is not available on 007 (but can still force a dash install if u own a disk with Live 1.0) and xbe's will need to be signed by the user.
Below is xbedump with 3 batch files, 1 for each exploit key. Extract the zip into a new dir. Make a copy of the xbe u want signed and copy to that dir. Run "habibi sign xbe.bat" and place the signed xbe in it's proper location using the appropriate name for your needs. Delete default.xbe from the dir with xbedump. (to clear the dir for the next time)

ok thanks for the info i'll give it a try,
catfish,
any eta on the 007 addition? After all the tinkering i somehow ended up with a copy of 007 and not ma (go figure). I've resolved all the other issues though including the dash downgrade ( i did it manually in liu of not having a copy of ma to use your installer ). Everythings lookin smooth!
Many thanks again!

No eta as of yet...
Add this line to any 007 + Evo-X save and it should work.
Item "Run Mech/Phoenix game-save","E:\UDATA\4D530017\082F8754F1D1\evoxdash.xbe",ID_No_D_Mount
Remember that the font installer needs MA to decompress from the installer. If u want the fonts with 007, u must FTP the fonts to the Xbox manually. Use the fonts posted alone earlier in this thread and follow the instructions.
Catfish,
Thanks for the reply...
I'm digging through the latest copy of 007_with_evox_installer. In the Udata/45410000d/000000000000 directory theres a xbsavegame.dat file that is mostly garbled with my basic shell edit command. I can distinguish out a particular line in there which points at a particular xbe:
d:\UDATA\45410000d\00000000\default.xbe
Should i try to replace this w/ your "Run Mech/Phoenix game-save","E:\UDATA\4D530017\082F8754F1D1\evoxdash.xbe",ID_No_D_Mount"
Or is there some util i should be using to edit the xbsavegame.dat that would make more sense compared to messing w/ garbled data?
Many thanks again!

Great work on your installer!!
I got it running as a NON-PBL version because i have the feared 5530 kernel.
Only 1 thingy after i installed the font exploit and start MA again to extract the fonts the screen goes black... i waited some time, smoked some sigaretes, surfed the net but it was still black... I tried it a few times but it hangs everytime when MA tries to extract the fonts....
Is this something with my MA version or has it something to do with the kernel?? Or is it because i can't run PBL and converted to a NON-PBL version?

The font installer can only be run once. I took the original linux engine.bin file and looped some of the copy operations back to the source directory to avoid cluttering up the C: drive.
there is an option under "exploit utils" to reset the font installer

I owe a big appology to everyone and especially to the guy who posted my package on xbins.
It seems the empty dir issue was my fault, I had used the wrong game-save zip in the package.
It's been updated to fix the directories and more flashes/BIOSes should be recognised. The readme has also been updated to include details on converting to non-PBL.
I highly recommend that everyone use the new zip and create backups on your own if u haven't already. (backups will function with the new zip)

Hi Catfish
The font installer keeps hangin. I really tried everything, cleaned up me game saves, cleaned up my c drive, did a virgin install of the exploit but it keeps hangin after i choose "prep phoenix" in MA. (black screen of death) waited some time but nothing... this has something to do with engine.bin that can't be loaded with kernel 5530!!
Then i tried to ftp the MA fonts in the fonts folder on C: renamed the book and xbox book to .bak but only thing i get is a black screen. Maybe a counter measure that may be stopping the fonts from loading the edited dash into the ram ?
Also tried to force my dashboard but this is really weird, it messed up my c drive so that i get error 13... i started MA, got into evox so that i can ftp to the xbox and what do i see... there's no longer a xboxdash.xbe in the root.. it has renamed and moved into fonts with the name xboxdash.xbx
the things i see in root are my dashdata and fonts except settings_adoc.xip, this file also moved to the fonts folder. but still no xboxdash.xbe in the root... so i ftp-ed the original one to the c root, booted my xbox and my live tab has dissappeared. Ok something has changed, good sign (or not).
This problem has really something to do with kernel 5530!!!!!!!!
Another thing. You gave in evox.ini Flash = 0x0900,"Winbond - W49F020T",0x40000, in fact thats not true. 0x0900 is the error code if it cannot be found. The bios that cannot be found yet is the Winbond - W49F020T. I'm confinced it has something to do with kernel 5530. So it's sort of a dirty workaround ;)
So to be short...
MA fonts don't work with 5530
The Force Dash messed up my C drive (5530???)
0x0900 =! Winbond - W49F020T",0x40000
The Audio exploit works :D
Hope this gives some more info on the new fucked up kernel :s

xOrcist, I'll try to resolve and answer your questions the best I can.
The font installer issue...
I'm aware that sometimes ther installer will freeze, If u would, could u please send me your 4d530017\C1AD103516FE directory and a copy of the fonts u tried to FTP into the box? (all should be less than 30k zipped and legal to send)
One thing is that the dashupdate.xbe requires a valid XBox Book.xtf to reside in C:\. Previous fonts exploits may hinder operations. U could try copying the fonts from C:\fonts'\ to C:\ and see if that fixes the hanging.
The dashboard being moved issue...
This happened because the "force" option did not complete. It requires the user to select "install 4920" if they are using PBL, and non-PBL users are required to restart Mech and attempt to connect to Live. The force options only manipulate files, it is the dashupdater that installs the dashboard. The reason the Live tab disappeared is because u selected "force 4920 Replace LIve", meaning the onlinedash.xbe file also got renamed. Basicaly, here's what my installer does... http://forums.maxconsole.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=777
Flash part listings...
Hey, I grabbed the flash list from x-s and I'm sure most ppl know how accurate they are... Anyways, I'll compare the list to raincoat.conf and see what I find. Thanks 2 u, it should at least identify your BIOS correctly :)

OK, I checked Winbond's site and I can't find the device ID for the W49F020t. I can only guess that the ID is the same for all 3 versions of packaging, so place a # in front of that entry and all should be good. I like the idea to change it to "CHECK YOUR FREAKING SOLDERING!".
Looking at the game-save u sent me, it appears the exploit never even started on your machine. Guess they'll have to be manually installed for now.
Could u describe the black screen in more detail? Does ejecting the DVD tray have any effect? What is the xboxdashdata dir's trailing number?
Anyways, I did some hex-editing and have a few sets of fonts if u want to test them. If they still give u black screens, I would like to see the fonts again, but please send me the ones that resided on the Xbox, not from the zip.
Attached are the test fonts. They are intended for kernel 5530 users and are numbered in the order that I think they should be tested. Only use these if u r absolutely sure you can gain access in case of disaster. . (removed as they were confirmed not working)

I checked the fonts in order of the package and only 2_newlinuxfonts seems to boot into xboxdash. The live tab changed into linux tab. After selecting this tab the dash boots into himself.
I uploaded evox signed with habibi to my e drive, changed it to linux.xbe, default.xbe made a folder Phoenix with evox.xbe changed to e (like in your installer), but the linux tab doesn't boot into one of these..
does the xbe need to signed with - font after using these??
all the other fonts boot up my dash and the screen goes black.. so it starts up the dash, and when it's loading the fonts the screen goes black. So i opened up the fonts in a hex and what my opinion is, is that 5530 uses encryption or something.
about the MA installer fonts. after i boot in MA and select prep phoenix, the screen goes black immediatly, i don't see the screen that the fonts are extracting. It just wont boot into Dash to extract them. Ejecting the tray doesn't help as it resets my xbox.
Here are the fonts that were on my xbox. As said before only the newlinux fonts boot into my dash.
catfish
01-16-2004, 10:43 AM
I actually meant ejecting the tray with the fonts, not the game-save.
Those were the real linux fonts and won't boot habibi-signed xbe's. I included them because I managed to decompress them.
Which datadir u have?
xboxdashdata.10027100 or xboxdashdata.1012a700?
I've included a few more to test. Here's what I know...
Make the fonts too big and the Xbox will reboot. Make them too small and it'll freeze.
U can play around with them yourself if u want. using a hex-editor, copy an even block of data (starts with fa and ends with eb and insert into the center of the file keeping the pattern intact.. (faebfaebfaeb...)
The fonts in the dirs are incremented by 128 bytes I think. Bloated.zip contains fonts roughly 2 meg larger than normal. (removed as they were confirmed not working)

just some questions
1) on the requirements, u spoke 2 times about bios X2 4979.67, this bios need to be BFM or not?
2) can we use X2 4981.67? (the difference betwen 4979 i think is only to disable LIVE!)
3) evox 3921 recommended, have u found some problem with 3935?
4) MA is only needed for 1st install, or any time i disable the exploits? (i'm preparing to manually install it, i dont have MA :( )
5) from readme.htm : "Should" work on any NTSC Xbox versions 1.0 through 1.5, and PAL ?
great job!

just some answers
1) as stated earlier in this thread, u only need a BIOS compatable with your own system. BFM=yes
2) yes
3) yes and no, the main reason is I tested with 3921 and it supports the HD temp.
4) buy a game that has an exploit available. It'll save u alot of hassle if something goes wrong. Follow the instructions ealier in the thread for a manual install.
5) everything except the Japanese version I would imagine. (with the limits of kernel 5530 requiring the audio exploit without the use of PBL)
thank's
my xbox is already softmodded bios 5101 dash 4920 pbl1.3.5i x2 4981 evox 3935, but i'd like to have a possibility to disable the exploit
and again (sorry but i need to know it)
MA is only needed for 1st install, or any time i disable the exploits?

The easiest way is to go to the usual places and get xbtool... follow the directions to get it set up then open the bios file you want to modify i.e. 4981, m7 etc... make your changes to the boot sequence and save it as phoenix.bin... the xbtool interface is very easy to use and understand...
xbtool is very easy to use, there is a manual
just read how to make a bfm bios

I've made a new batch for signing XBE's.
This version includes shell extensions so u can right-click any XBE and select which key to use.
I tested it on win98se, XP and win2k.
from the batchfile:
This utility will help simplify the signing of XBE's for Windows users.
It will work via drag-drop, command-line or optional shell extensions.
Setup options will allow the user to customise the default signing key.
This util will identify and then backup any file that it signs.
SHELL EXTENSION INSTALL: (all features)
1 Right-click "ez.inf" and select "install" (default, prompt for key)
2 ez i (default install, prompt for key) (also generates a new inf)
3 ez i h (install habibi as dbl-click or primary right-click choice)
MANUAL INSTALL METHOD: (batch menu only)
Install ez-xbedump by copying ez.bat and xbedump.exe to your Windows dir.
Usage: ez [file] [key] Key options: a audio h habibi f font
Using help or ? as a command-line switch brings you this display.
(Usage:) ez c:\xbox\default.xbe (prompt for key)
(Usage:) ez c:\xbox\default.xbe a (audio key)
(Usage:) ez c:\xbox\default.xbe font (font key)
(Usage:) drop any XBE file onto this batch (prompt for key)
(Usage:) right-click any XBE and select the key to use. (shell)
Be sure to visit the forums at http://www.maxconsole.com/
Known issues: (please inform me of any not listed here)
1) Internal XBE names that contain : (colon) will not be backed up. A (:) is an invalid character for a filename and I have a solution and will incorporate it into the next update/fix. (soon)
2) Command line usage cannot contain spaces in the filename/path. This will not be fixed any time soon.
3) Large XBE's take a few seconds to display and/or sign. This is because I do a few redundant checks on the file before actually signing. I check for "XBEH" inside the file and then I run xbedump -xbgs to retrieve the internal XBE name. I plan to add a "fast" option in the next fix to bypass these checks for more advanced users. I will keep the backup function though.
changes since first released:
*changed the batch to not use time-stamped names in NT to avoid filling up the HD.
*changed NT portion to properly handle unknown names
*fixed XBE name issues on 9x systems
*added window title to NT portion
*added menu for install.bat
*2-21 fixed letters disappearing from internal XBE names.
*fixed XBE icons for win9x systems

this mechinstaller seemed really easy to use, but, beeing very neewbie, I got stuck very early. I successfully made the first steps, so I can now transfer files to the xbox and from the xbox to my pc (with flashfxp). But when I opened the readme.htm I got the message "your xbox doesn't seeme to be connected" right away. I seem to be the only one with this problem. Anybody know what I did wrong?

Nothing to worry about... It isn't an issue, it's just a simple check to see if u have Mechinstaller-Phoenix installed and running. If the exploit is actually installed and running and u still get that error, then your network settings for the PC are incorrect or u changed the password.

I have done exactly as catfish said in one of the early posts. installing the fonts manually. all i get is a black screen and then nothing happens. I burned a boot disc with evox as catfish said and it boots. anyone got any idea why it won't boot without the boot disc?. i have signed the bios loader with the habibi key and tried all the locations; E:\phoenix\ etc...

And the settings and bios for the phoenix loader is also correct, it works with the audio exploit.

If so, that's the "no-boot" issue. Try ejecting the tray once or twice and see what happens.

No, what i mean is that i have made a cd-r with evox and a xbe called catfish.xbe , and that it boots alright when it's in. but otherwise it doesnt boot the bios loader, thats the problem, without the bootdisc it doesnt boot. sorry if i were unclear in my last post, but I usually don't speak or use english.
Hope you understand what i mean
I will try the fix you mentioned, And if you would like to know, it just reboots. and it isnt the clock loop.
The fix didn't work. i tried making a boot disc with the bios loader and the same error, It's becouse of the phoenix bios loader xbe. any ideas?

There is a new unofficial version of Phoenix BIOS Loader 1.4.
It supports the focus chip and this one has the drive mapping fixed so it can be loaded from DVD.
Everyone with kernel 5530 should give this a try, but no promises from me.

i have downloaded 1.4 for focus (my xbox is 1.4)

usin hermer

__clearer_instance

after that --> it hangs, no animation , nothin more...

A question. My xbox is up and running with bigfonts. I used hotswap method to exploit. Problem with bigfonts is the clock loop problem. i heard mech fonts 99.9% solve this problem. So, if I just ftp into my xbox and replace bert.xtf and ernie.xtf with mech fonts wil they work fine with my dash ( xbmc)
another confusing thing is I read mech fonts loads a hacked msdash. so, if I replace my fonts will it loads with msdash or my old xbmc. And, do I need to sogn the .xbes with other signeture other than -fonts.

I used x2 4981.67 renamed to phoenix.bin and xboxrom.bin I tried messing around with xbtool but I cant get it to open or unpack the bios all I can do is change the size. i'm running 5101 and 5659. I used the keyboard and settings_panel from my box so that may also be the problem I've scoured the usual place but to no avail, if its buried inside some app could you point me to it I'm going nuts here!
1 of the requirements is dash 4920!
exploit on 5659 dont work properly
with xbtool u have to change the boot sequence of the x2 BFM bios without unpack it,
have u configured xbtool ?
xbtool need rc4 key,

Okay, I dont think I have an rc4 key I know to get one in the usual places but I cant find it any hints? I have no idea how to configure it either. I thought catfish would install 4290, thats why I'm using it (or trying to at least) I'm not trying to be lazy I've read this whole thread countless times as well as x-s and the read me, I just cant figure this out.
One other thing, I used thr boot.cfg and default.xbe from pbl 1.4 to bypass the focus chip could this cause a problem? I'm begining to think I should just wait for one of catfishes ninjas to upload a version with the questionable files intact, Since this has been around since Dec. what are the chances of finding one soon?
for xbtool u need the debug.ini
copy config\More Configs\debug.ini under config folder and insert on it the rc4
when xbtool start select debug in "Bios type" combo
for pbl i'm using latest 1.4.1 unofficial:
replace the 2nd line of boot.cfg (is filled with all 0x00) with correct value
resign the xbe with -habibi key
phanboy
03-12-2004, 11:45 AM
Where can I find the rc4? What file would it be in? What Filename do I look for?
under boot.cfg of pbl, some version of it have all value already filled
check usual place :D
phanboy
03-12-2004, 03:44 PM
okay found rc4 and eeprom heys and have them in the boot.cfg now I'm looking for this debug.ini I found an evox.ini but thats it.
debug.ini is for xbtool, and it is already on xbtool package
just copy it to right directory, path are on my previous post, and fill the RC4_KEY=

Man I feel like a moron... :D
Okay I think I'm good to go except I need The keyboard.xip and the settings_panel.xip from a 4920 dash... Any clues on the where abouts to these? They're probably small enough to send in the mail...
phanboy
03-12-2004, 07:25 PM
okay so far I've signed evey xbe I can find with habibi Pbl loads up and I dont select a bios then it freezes at the xbox logo. Argh! I know I need the xips but is that all? If I select pbl from the bios menu MA reboots but with pbl loaded. (I have the led switched to red) any ideas?
phanboy
03-13-2004, 11:56 AM
Alright I just decided to bypass pbl entirely now evox boots up, Yeah! when I go to downgrade the dash I force it but when I go to the dash to update to 1.0 I get error 13? Please tell me all I need is the correct xips and I'm home free... I restored my c drive after attempting the force 4920 so I should be okay to turn it off right?

Since the new rumors on X-S about pbl running on a 5530 kernel with an adjusted eeprom image wouldn't it be possible to run the mechfonts also on this kernel with this setup since it also boots to a black screen like pbl so maybe it has some kind of similar block by the eeprom.

03-16-2004, 09:23 PM
allright... Evox installed. :)
I think phoenix was the culprit so I bypassed it. Now I have another problem... Using flashfxp to make back up games, when I read the D drive it only shows 6 video files... No matter what game I put in (Qwix does the same thing) so I investigate further and find evox recognizes retail games as video, and recognizes backups (from a previous mod) as games. However when I try to boot backups I get DDE or error 21. Any ideas?

OK, I'm updating Mechinstaller-Phoenix to include habibi versions of B&E Reloaded and Bigfonts. This will give 5530 owners more options than just audio, but will need to be manually installed via FTP after an initial audio exploit install. Earlier kernel versions will still be able to use the "Mechinstaller" method.
This update will also be 5530 compatible from the game-save directly with all the current features plus some new ones.
All thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Use unleashX you can zip the entire kit and kaboodle and I think it's only like 2 ish megs with a altered signed xboxdash.xbe
All you'll have to do is automate it to rename the existing fonts and unzip the zip package to the c drive
Use my installer and nick the gamesaves out of it if you create an installer pack inside of another gamesave
'E:\UDATA\01010101\' place your xbe etc in a subfolder under that with any other name other than '100000000011'
If you need help creating a valid gamesave just PM me
But after you do that your installer should work on all the exploitable games (be sure to include the linux gamesave for splinter cell)
And remember to thank Madhouse and The Joker for the app that is behind all this.
PS all the above and more should fit onto an 8 meg card inc a copy of evox or whatever (other than XBMC dash lolz)
PPS I am not now nore ever touching fonts for the Blox System
PPPS Would be nice if you set your dash to look in the same spots as mine so people can use the blox apps/ dashboards with it
Just remember all the apps in blox are audio signed only though so Habibi signed font's = good
PBL is a game save so you can just acces it/take it from the installer though I'm currently thinking my M7 bios in it has gotten mucked up some how
EDIT me thinks Catfish doesn't like me oh well I tried... just use it anyway I don't own it it belongs to the xbox users out there :) make life easy on yourself well ish lol - still have to make the installer (Catfish Blox sounds good to me)

This is still version 1, it is based on the Linux Mechinstaller and requires MA to decompress the fonts. It is basicaly just an update. There are instructions for linking to the game-save to make it semi-compatible with other game-saves. (007 does not carry dashupdate.xbe)
There will be no Blox system support as there is a key conflict and I don't feel like having everyone over for an error 21 party.

Heres what to do
simple way
Take the 007 and Splinter Cell blox gamesaves
edit file xbexecute.ini
So the top line points to your MA save on the D: drive
(no \ on the end though)
Just as long as the xbe you wish to run is alphabetically the first named xbe in there it should work fine :)
Yeah shame about the dashdowngrade with 007
does your wway let you keep the xodash folder?
I leave it alone so live 2.0 is fine for people... but since your using fonts who cares
Shame about the font's sigs I'll have to have a look at them some day cool thing is habibi sig = audio sig
Sign anything with either and they all run with which ever exploit, now if only someone could change the font exploit to have an audio or habibi sig...

Answered in the thread and readme...
Shame about the font's sigs I'll have to have a look at them some day cool thing is habibi sig = audio sig
I have no idea what the shame is, but audio does NOT equal habibi...
Sign anything with either and they all run with which ever exploit.... Read above, or try signing your blocks with habibi and see what happens.
...now if only someone could change the font exploit to have an audio or habibi sig... You don't read every thread that u post to, huh?

03-23-2004, 08:43 AM
Signed them audio and they run from the gamesave exploits and teh audio exploit
Signed them habibi and just the same :D
So do I just have an amazing xbedump (considering I tried the one from your package too) or some amazing exploits here then?? :D *NOTE I just did a hex edit compare of my xbedump to the one in your ez pack <which is pritty good BTW - just made myself something sub directory recursive for xp> no difference so Either my xbox and all the ones I've ever seen (about 50 ish) are all miricles or habibi = audio in some way shape or form..... the world of the strange LOLZ
As far as all I've ever done anything signed with either works on either :D which is why I included the Apps section on the installer because now I can addon extras as things from M$ pop up... like 5530 eeprom factory reset - still need to talk to yoshihro about that.
No I was not saying blox support :p If you use the gamesaves exploits in the pack you can simply repoint them to any where you wish like your 007 game save for instance this means that for only about 200kb extra you can add 007 AUF & Splinter Cell to what your pack is compatable with!
Anyway sigh I'm leaving the subject if you want to use them if people would like 007 and splinter cell access to catfish's pack just PM your email... sigh all because I tried to help
PS the app that runs these gamesaves is not my creation so don't look at or even thank me for it thank Madhouse and The Joker
Seriously from my POV I could quote you on this :)

I stand corrected...
Habibi and Audio DO appear to be fully compatible.
Although the keys are in fact different, and the resulting signed XBE's will have different signatures, both keys generate sigs that are compatible with either exploit.
remember, if u r gonna quote me, be accurate...

I remember reading someone saying the same as you way back when i was hiding and you were posting in x-s.
Nice isn't it :D
I remember seeing Grospolina saying the sigs are different - which is weird because Grospolina said Habibi = Font
I must try font signing something to see just what exactly does happen.
Outcome of this is you live you learn :)
EDIT hey maybe its a rounding error as the sig is factory by 3 and theres an intel processor in there LOL

hi i just got the package from the usaul places and installed it works fine but i tried to change the evox dash with another by renaming the repalcement dash to evox whatever.xbe but get an error is there a different way of replaceing the dash or is this not possible with this exploit.

The only thing my installer would ever do to C: is place the fonts there. U can also change the default dashboard by changing the BIOS to point to your replacement. (or simply add a new BIOS and use the selection menu of PBL to test first)
I considered the various modding possibilities for a while, thought your method seemed to be the best for my needs and now I'm positive it was; thank you, ThAnK YoU, THANK YOU!
I hotswapped it in, downgraded my dash with it, started off with the non-PBL setup and now use its PBL fonts implementation (along with the automated audio/fonts switching feature occassionally).
The recovery capabilities were an important factor to me too, because I wanted a "safety net". I haven't needed to use that as everything worked perfectly (and/or I resolved my difficulties by largely overcoming my "noobness"!) but I really appreciate it and all of the excellent features you've built in eh.

To help mkjones and to not cause current Morden V3 users confusion, I have modified the fonts slightly to be compatible with Morden's Audio Exploit Installer V3.
This will not affect current Mechinstaller-Phoenix users in any way, there has been no changes except to add E:\pbl\p to the font's path search locations. (removing E:\Hakurs\default.xbe)
Be sure to read the readme and make your backup before proceeding...
There will still be an update to my installer, I just want to do some more tests first.

My tutorial HERE (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=45&t=195224&st=0#entry1297130) has been updated.
I hope to maybe create some kind of simple package soon, it has been requested I release a C and E folder style package for users with FTP access.

Hi!
I've just bought a new XBOX and is about to Softmod it. I've already fixed the 007-hack and evo-x is running from 007-AUF-CD. I started the ftp-server and made backup och all drives. Then I tried to install various hacks... Gueux.Net's complete and signed phoenix1.3_loader_bigfonts with evo-x. ... didn't work. Then i just tried bert_and_ernie_reloaded with font-signed evo-x 3935 ... didn't work.
Then after reading some forums I realized I might have a bad dashboard-version. My kernel-version is 1.00.5101.01 and my dashboard-version is 1.00.5659.03 .... does this mean that I'm screwed !?!? Or might this package help me ? Or does anyone have any recommendations ? Is it the phoenix bios loader or the evolution-x that don't support dashboard version 5659 ? downgrade ?
What is the best and easiest solutions to my problem ? As I already wrote .. I already have the ftp-access to the xbox.
Would be soooooo happy if someone could help me !!!!
Many thanks !!

Your hardware is exploitable, u just need to downgrade the dashboard.
This package (once required files are obtained), will downgrade the dash for u. Complete the package and FTP it in.
U can also manualy downgrade or try this:

I made the mistake of running the font installer without the other files, so the xbox boots to the dash with the replaced live logo which reads "pheonix" but doesn't actually load anything since there's no "P" file to boot.
I'm trying to run the catfish MA savegame with _all_ files (inserted the missing files into the zip) however I get error 21 loading every savegame exploit I can find (other than with preparephoenx.zip)
Do I need to sign the files first? Do I need to manually edit the boot.cfg with the rsa keys from my own xbox? I'm quite confused; there must be something terribly obvoius I'm missing.
EDIT: turned out to be the crap AR memory card that was causing the problem.. all savegames will boot now that I'm using an MS memory card.

Thanks for the reply catfish ..
I've found some zipped zip-files (4d530017_082F8754F1D1.zip, fonts.zip etc etc..). That zip also contained a nice README. Just wonder if you know anyone tested your package on PAL-xbox ? Only NTSC in the README. I bought my xbox in sweden, so it's a PAL ... even though my TV supports both NTSC and PAL.
Maybe the downgrade will force the xbox to NTSC, haha..
Many thanks !

Hey, catfish... as you know, I've been using your installer for a while now.. and I have a few q's...
What's your best proposed method of installing both audio and font? I've tried installing font first, and audio first, and both ways seem to have issues, but one I re-install the audio, it seems ok... I haven't had a chance to dig through all of your scripts to see what goes where...
Which leads to my next q... why are there so many copies of pbl in the e drive? I understand that the ones in the root are for audio , but what about default with no extension? I think the e one is for audio too...
I was also just wondering if you've tried using PBL 1.4.1 on these fonts.. . I've got a box here that has a garbled boot in PBL even with 1.4.1,... very strange.
Anyway, nice work!

I have installed the catfish loader. I installed the font exploit. It boots in to the msdashboard when I load phoenix it says "could not load logo application died in an unhappy manner". I'm using the bios file that comes with the signed phoenix bios loader with the rc4 key that comes with that I used xbtool to edit it. I also installed the force 4920 dash.
