Guitar Hero 1 costs $97.76 on Xbox 360

The songs from Guitar Hero 1 are now available on Xbox Live for Guitar Hero 2. However each of the songs cost around $2.08 ($6.25 for 3 tracks). Given that Guitar Hero 1 has about 47 songs, that brings the total cost to $97.76. Pretty steep for a $40 dollar game on the PS2...

What did Ms do? You have the publisher and developer to thank for not including these tracks into the game, since GH1 was never released on xbox they could put the tracks into GH2 for free instead of milking the customer.

I love most of the songs of GH1 more than the 2nd, but i hated how difficult hammer ons and pull offs were so being able to play those tracks with GH2s updated gameplay will be damn good.

i think this will be the downfall of the 360. they are charging people for dumb ass sh!t. all these contents should be free and that would actually keep the 360 competitive with rival consoles. if they're going to start charging for maps and extra crap then people will run to other consoles.

Only 3 "packs" of 3 songs are available, I believe. You should either read the Joystiq story more fully, or just copy it verbatim. ;)

This is the one thing I got to agree about. MS is just penny pinching every cent out of anything. This whole we give our customers a choice is BS.

Option 1 spend alot of money
Option 2 spend even more money
Option 3 buy option 1 + 2 and spend 2 times the amount.

Some free content would be nice sometime.
Also a price drop is needed, game consoles aren't selling right now.

Kind of like how Epic is being encouraged to follow their intentions and release free map packs for Gears of War? The pricing is going to be like the iTunes store. MS probably gets 30% to 50%, and the publisher gets the rest. I'd love to know actual figures though. Anyway, I suspect prices are what they are because MS probably takes such a big cut. And I do think MS has urged them to hustle their offering to market.

Word. In all honesty, paying $100 for that doesn't sound out of the question for me. It is definitely a ripoff...but combining GH1 songs with GH2 gameplay? Possibly priceless? I'd get a lot at any rate. I could easily spend over $50.

Well, what exactly did you think their whole plan for making this thing profitable was? Selling the console itself at zero profit (or a loss) and then selling only 2 first party games (bungie and rare) every 2 years? Even MS can't do that forever. With Vista raking in the negative PR, they are probably under more pressure from the top to make the gaming unit profitable, too.

Maybe not every one, but a real lot were. Even ones that I wasn't really familiar with, I wound up loving them by the end. GH2 doesn't have quite the same effect. As for new ones, we'll have to see. Interestingly, if RedOctane released a PS2 Guitar Hero "Legends" pack that was GH1 + GH2 on one disc with the GH2 controls...for a full $49.99.. even though I own both of those games.. I'd totally buy that.

Agreed, completely... Microtransactions for legitimate content, at proper cost, are practical, but gouging people who are completion-ists, is a poor strategy... Even the not-so-spectacular songs, I would buy, if it was made affordable... Under this standard, what's the point in even releasing songs that weren't too popular, as noone will ever buy them anyway, to save money... If they lowered the price for the entire package, to make it appropriately priced, they would sell far more downloads...

Im buying the 3 packs - totally worth it.

Theres only few more songs i'd want from GH1 anyways.

After beating the GH1 songs on 5 i lost interest in most of them.

Besides, GH1 without guitar is €45 ($59) here in Germany.

Most 360 games go for more than €60 ($80) here.

I guess i would have expected 300 points per pack but i will also pay 500.


Lumines was the Major rip-off IMO - 1200 oints for the basic game. I spent 600 points more for the extension and i still couldnt play puzzle mode.


Im VERY happy RedOctane redid my fav GH1 songs (really fast release on top of that) and added the awesome multiplayer and hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Yeah and just in the last 10 minutes the petition has grown almost 1000 signatures with people making legitimate comments, unlike that joke of a petition that was about Devil May Cry moving to the 360. Should be interesting to see if this uproar has any effect, it did when horse armor was released, and Morrowind DLC has been reasonable since.

as this songs are already included in the ps2 version it is just wrong to charge 360 owners for them after paying full price for the game, dammit. it would have been great if they would have left all the songs in and offered 30 EXCLUSIVE new songs as separated downloads for 99 cent per song, that would be interesting and they would make a lot of money withit without ripping people off, but ripping out content that is supposed to be in the game just to charge for that content afterwards? get outta here! i guess the next dance dance revolution on the 360 will just have 5 songs for 60 bucks and you can buy the others afterwards for additional 100$, right?
