View Full Version : Guitar Hero controller investigation launched
Following widespread reports of defective Guitar Hero II controllers, Red Octane has announced that it is looking into problems with the controller. A large number of problems were reported over the weekend of which are reportedly effecting just two models of the Xbox 360 version.
The problems, which emerged over the weekend, appear to affect two models of the controller on the Xbox 360 version.
In a statement on its website, Red Octane stated: “We have been informed of a possible calibration issue with Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360’s whammy bar. We believe this may stem from a feature put in place to ensure accurate scoring. Guitar Hero II features a complex control scheme that requires precise calibration between the game and the guitar. We are currently investigating the situation further.”

I can, myself, say that there may be some fact to this...
I recently tried GHII for 360, and something was... "off"... about the controller... It seemed like there was a responsiveness issue in more than just the Whammy Bar... I, for example, couldn't even play You Really Got Me on Medium, without constantly missing notes, as it would fail to register fret buttons, etc... I thought nothing of it at the time, as it was a display model 360 w/ the controller, but now I'm starting to wonder...
Hopefully this is just a minor issue, and my own experience had nothing to do with any issues they're dealing with currently...

Mine seems to be working fine.
As does my Sega High Grade Stick, which was pulled due to similar issues.
hmmm ... either I am very lucky, or a few people may be over-reacting.

Possibly, or just like anything else in the media a few reports suddenly make it an epidemic.
Tho I can say a friend has two bum guitars, each w/ a diff prob.

my guitar has the whammy bar issue, and I seem to play songs better on the PS2 version.

Seems to be what I have here. On clearly slow songs, the fret button will not register soemtimes when I hold down 2.

My Whammy Bar does not keep it's position and is sort of loose and the responsiveness is not accurate. As for the frets... Everything seems to be working fine to me.
Will Harmonix offer any sort of replacement?

Mine works fine, but a few people at the gamestop said they had problems! One guy had two, one worked, and one didn't!

same here. I dont think my whammy bar is messed up, but I have noticed Notes not regestering sometimes. I usualy start off on mrdium, and I played through the whole games last week on the 360. And no matter how hard I tried I couldnt 100% any song. Id either miss 1-10 notes that were so easy and when I missed them, Iwas pissed because I can Prety much 100% everysong on medium on the PS2. Luckily I bought the controller from walmart without the game so I can return it. I havnt tried Hard, but I usually get 80%-95% on hard. I suck at expert! there is a calibration option in the settings for lag so It maybe that. I will try that next and see if it gets better.

i fixed my whammy bar, with taking off the back of the guitar, and removing the 2 screws that hold part of the sensor in place, and moving them about 1cm clockwise, then tightened the screws again, and its perfect now.

has anybody gotten a guitar with the defective numbers but still have a guitar that works perfect? Just wondering because I got a guitar with the 95055 but I haven't tried it yet so just wondering if I should just exchange it because the ratio is pretty much guaranteed failure or if its about 50/50
