I was wondering, do you have to use 30 gauge wire to solder a modchip on a wii? Just askin cuz i cant find any wire of that size in any hardware store.

No, you can use a slightly thicker wire if that's all they have, say 22 awg would be fine.

You could use any gauge you want, but 30 is ideal and is the easiest to work with and gives the best results.

30 gauge wire is often called wrapping wire... you can find it at most radio shack/the source locations... it is highly recommended and will make the install much easier with less change of pulling up a pad because of its flexibility...

mine was magnet-wrapping wire, came with 22g/26g/30g/ in 3 spools at radio shack for 4 bucks. I used 26, because 30 seemed way to small....but its standard use so it would have been ok.

If your cheap you can also just cut a IDE cable and use that. So for the WiiKey just cut a strip of 5 wires and you are good to go.

Thats be cause typical hardware stores don't carry wire that thin. Try an electronics store.

The problem with using ribbon cable (either the .050" or the smaller grade) is that it's not solid core. It will work, but it is tricky to solder onto test points.

i would say, anything above 20 gauge is good for mod your console. anything less than 20... idk.. to me, they just look too big for consoles.

Kynar wire is another name...
Definately recommended to use it if you can find it, I had to source my roll from an online shop as no-one locally where I live stocked it.

I used some pieces of wire from a cat5 network cable :D
Nice and small, works like a dream so far!
