[07.04.06] wiiKey base 1.2 released!
Version 1.2 of the setup disc is now available for download. It combines various applications into a single bootable disc. This release includes:

- wiikey configuration
- wiikey dvdDump (dumps discs to sdcard)
- some of the most popular gamecube homebrew apps:

- SDLoad 1.0 by Costis
- Snes9x 1.43 GX 0.5 Port by Softdev
- GCOs MultiGame Version by emu_kidid
- MFE Distro 1.0 by Isobel

We like to point out that this disc does not update the chips firmware
in any way. It merely adjusts the configuration stored in EEPROM.

what's next ?
==============================
Coming up next will be the first wiikey firmware update. Among some new
features/improvements, it will fix the audiostreaming bug, that causes
several gamecube games to crash right now. More details will be
announced soon on the official website.

for the dvd dumper, you need the gecko to test it out.

edit: trauma center works perfectly for me.

Did someone get the MFE to recognize a swapped disc? I thought it should provide the swap feature?!
[EDIT]
Ok, forget it, you need to press left and right for a few seconds to mount a new disc. I just tried my a DVD with some episodes of samurai champloo (divx) and it seems to work great.

do you need a Gamecube pad to use this or can you use the buttons on the Wii again??

Navigation:
============================================
For those without a gamecube controller, both the main menu and the
disc dumper support navigation via the reset button. Pressing reset
for a short time will move the cursor, holding the button for one
second selects the current entry. The included homebrew apps require
a gc controller naturally.

joshysquashy
04-06-2007, 06:49 AM
is it possible to compile a version of this that only has the setup and disk dumper without the other apps? i don't have a gc controller and i think it would look tidier if they werent on the disk.

also, for those on a mac, someone should make the format and join programs for macs.

so now u can play the trauma center NTSC version on a PAL wii with wiikey?

no you cannot we have to wait for firmware update :(

The update will fix the bug regarding GC audio streaming. No word about increased region code compatibility. I think the common understanding is that the WiiKey can't achieve compatibility that the various ISO region code fixers can't.
So I would NOT expect this to be fixed anytime. Then again, Trauma Center is said to be released as PAL verion anyway, so why bother?

hold left and right trigger to unmount/mount and play discs.

it also plays dvd movies, albeit choppy and without menu support :(

Well, nice to see this disc, but I'm alot more looking forward to the firmware upgrade, especially the audiofix for a lot of GC games.

I don't want to start anything, but I think it's only fair to warn people.

This thread has been published on the front page, but it links people to divineo to buy a wiikey. I highly discourage anyone from buying from divineo as wiikey has removed them as an official reseller due to cloning profiteering reasons (you can read about it in the wiikey website's news section). This news was released by wiikey, but never actually got published here at MC.

Let's not hijack the thread with this as I am only saying this as a fair warning to would-be buyers.

I'm kinda hung up on making my disc.

In order to make the image:

"To create the image, simply run the BootableDisc_XXX.bat matching
your console region."

So I copy my roms in the proper directories then click BootableDisc_US.bat. I should expect that it would compile everything and make a nice neat .iso.

But instead it gives me a DOS window that reads "Could not find ...\config.1.2\bootdisk.us.iso"

Where to go from here?

put the bootdisc (previous wiikey setup disc) in the directory then it will use that one (*u have to rename that previous setup disc name to bootdisk.us.iso otherwise it wont find it) then it will regenerate a new iso file with all the components with the new update (like loader and stuff). then burn that new made iso and u are done.

...i did a 'cube dump just fine...it goes about 1.4MB/sec on a high speed SD. Good stuff.

...and now, for some editorial:

This has got to be the most *arbitray* way to do this...simply to make it a PITA :)

I'm reversing this thing now to make something that works on os x or linux...but MAN this is just...

Stupid :)

The 'file format' they made is just moronic...to say the least, and seems to exist simply to make it difficult to use any other common tool to join or use the dumped disk.

More info as i go on thruout the evening...

If it hangs when padding the file, try to remove your sd card for a second and put it back in. that worked for me.

I burned the pal image and everything is fine. But the disc dumper and snes could not find the sd card (Gecko Adapter) i tried 2 different ones. The App from emu Kid recognises my sd card and writes on them. Anyone got this problem too? I tried fat16 and fat32 but i guess fat16 is the right one...

Ok. Probably i should read the readme files first:

Setup:
-------------------
Before using your sdcard for the first time, you need to format it using
our tool. To do this simply run:

dumptool [driveletter] -c

This will format the card to fat16 and allocate space for the dumpfile.
It will use all but 10Mb of the available space, in case you want to put
some other applictions on there as well.

when i try to format my sd card, it crashes immediately before any writing can occur. i can read \ write normally to the card, but the dumptool prog acts like it doesn't have the ability to write to it.

i can use my digital camera as a sd card reader and it works ok, but its extremely slow. weird that my built in reader wont work.

Can someone please tell me why a Gecko Adapter is needed for the dump with wiikey disk 1.2 as opposed to it going straight to sd card? I dont really know what the Gecko is and it's purpose in the dump process.
Thanks

Cause, every homebrew has to run over the gamecube chip in the wii
( at the moment ). The SD Card Slot is only acessible from the wii not from the cube...
The gecko is an Memory Card Adapter in which you can stick in a SD Card or an micro sd Card.
just a simple explanation.

Tested with:
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Gecko Adaptor
2GB regular SD card
Windows xp

Everything was working fine: formating, dumping... The first 2 chunks are dumping correctly and merge to the discimage.iso file.

But when I try to dump the last chunk to my pc, it stops at 4,293,918,720 bytes (4,193,280 kb) and I get a pop up window saying cannot write to discimage.iso. I tested twice and had the exact same problem twice at the exact same place. I am unable to dump the 3rd chunk. Any suggestion?

I will try to dump with the dumptool -d option instead of -sd.
How can I merge the files.
Is it just a copy /b 00.rvl+01.rvl+02.rv1 ?

byteworkz

can't you merge with winrar, I still have to order a gecko so can't test it myself.

I resolved my problem. I did 2 things:

1.
I reformatted my sd card but I don't think it's the solution.

2.
I tested on drive c: instead of drive d: after I realised even the binary copy was giving me trouble on my d:. I guess the drive needs a defrag.

any word on dumptool for os x - I'm very keen to see this as virtual pc is just so slow

I'm working on it, actually and have been using parts of it for my own use.

Specifically, I've built so far:

mkwiidumpfs - this is a command line tool that formats an sd on mac os x to work with wiikey dumptool

Wiikey Dumptool for OSX - this is a cocoa app that will incorporate the mkwiikeyfs code, as well as allow for chunk extraction. its coming along, and will likely in the next couple of days be able to extract chunks to iso.

There are a couple of things i'm working out now in the dumpfile header to make it a bit easier on myself and others, and i think i'e figured out the last piece (disc format detection in chunks after the first one) via trial and error.

That is to say, if or not the chunks belong to a wii disk or a gamecube one. Once i'm fairly sure of this, i'll let a few folks that express interest and have the time to mess around on ichat test it out.

Here's a problem I haven't heard yet.
Disc Dumper constantly tries to do a one chunk dump of the disc when my card isn't big enough for it, so I let it go and as soon as it gets to my card's capacity, everything just freezes until I remove the memory card or restart the console. I don't see anyway to manually change the chunk size either.

I am def. interested in this once it is finished. All I have access to is a mac, I already have a wiikey, but i don't know what to do since there is no support for mac. If someone could let me in on how I can do the process with just a mac that would be awesome. I'm excited to hear someone is working on it :)
