most clones work exactly like the real wiikeys in my experience. it sounds more to me like they did a crappy job of installing it for you. :(

More likely poor media is causing your problems. What are you using?

People have reported that they can only get their crappy media read by using the 3x read speed option.

You sure it is even a wiikey? I mean I don't know much about clones, but regardless of the chipset, you should be able to do 6X.

Please keep in mind that when you load the setup CD a second time, the default features will remain in tact. Therefore it will read Regionfree=Off even though it is on.

Have you tested a different region game and had it fail?

Did you try to reformat your wii?

If not, backup your saves onto SD Card, and your Mii's onto your controller. See if that resolves the DRE.

You would be the first to have that 6x vs 3x issue. Also try different media. It could be your media that is screwing things up.

Clone and Original is the same..
They both should work fine.
I still think it's your media, what brand is it ??

-If i enable 6x or/and region free my wii will play backups if prior to me enabling those 2 settings i was playing a backup game(s).
-Then If I then decide to play my Tigerwoods golf (retail ver, not a backup) it gets to the title screen of the game and i get disc error.
After that all backups give me a DRE.

Then I restore settings to 3X and region free off, all works great without errors.
If then I Enable it again doing the opposite...see below

Diff Scenereo,
-If i enable 6x or/and region free It will work if prior to me enabling those 2 settings i was playing Tigerwoods golf (retail ver, not a backup)
-If I then decide to play a backup it gets to the title screen of the game and DRE

Does anyone else see a trend? Am I the only one with this wiered problem or ould there be more? Perhaps ypou never run into the problem if you choose to stick with eithe backups or retails, i dunno? Anyone else experiance this?

Ohh and you probably all sick of me know, but ya think cloan? or Wiikey

Thanks:confused:

Did you format your Wii? I know I asked this before. But try that first. I had something similar happen, but not to your extent. Format the Wii and do more testing.

If you formated, there is no need to reformat. I don't think that anyone can tell you if you have a clone by what you are posting, as clones up to this point functioned the same as non clones. You will definately know when the next wiikey firmware update will be released.

At the moment, from what you are saying, it is your media. But it may not matter what other media you use. It is due to your drive. Let's see if I can explain.

The DVD drive reads the DVD's, but there are 2 forms of DVD's here. You have a pressed DVD (the original DVD) and burnt DVDs. In some cases your burnt DVDs may not even be burnt at the same speed. The laser on the DVD player will adjust accordingly to read the DVD. If you switch back and forth from originals to copies, it is quite possible the laser is struggling to adjust to read the difference in the DVDs. I have had this happen on the PS2. If you try enough times, the drive will eventually read properly. The reason everyone recommends a change in media is because cheaper media is harder to read, which could eventually damage the laser. The more expensive stuff is put together with better dye and so on, so the laser struggles less. Also, with the more expensive DVDs you will probably have less issues switching to original DVDs, since the laser won't have to do as much adjusting to read.

Hopefully this helps.

Thank Alucard77,

It does help. It certainly makes sense

I haven't done much testing yet, but so far i havn't had the problem
if i do not have an sd card in my wii.

Ill report back soon and let you know.

Like it has been said already...

The fact that it works consistently at 3x strongly suggests it's a media issue or your drive is just not as good at reading recordable media at higher speeds.

Experiement with different burners, media and burn speeds. You will probably find a combo that works well with your wii drive. I got lucky I guess and my wii drive is very tolerant. At least to what I have thrown at it so far.. Nothing has caused DRE's. DVD-R's def make less noise then DVD+R's though in my drive.
