heya people.
i am a very good solderer, and i can assure that i did solder it in correctly. now my problem tho is that it won't read any backups. before you go asking questions, my wii chip is a GC2-DMS (earliest moddel, waited in line for it), the modchip is not defective accoridng to http://teamcyclops.com/fixtutorial.pdf , and the led light is a VERY VERY faint green constantly (barely seeable in the dark). i know that the backups i burnt work, because i've played them at a friends house's modded wii.

anyone know what's going on? possibly a defective unit that's not in that pdf file?

Sounds like its not getting enough power. Resolder the power and ground points, lets see some pics.

faint LED means not enough juice or poor connection for power, maybe even a short.

As for media works on one wii and not another it is possible, just look at meany people succeeful play backups @ 8x + burn speed while alot of users can only get working at 4x burn speed. Also if non brand media may work on some while not others. SO unless using brand name verbatim, ridata, etc... no way to guareentee will work on all wii's

depending on what wire you have used, maybe change the power wires. incase of fractures.

This is definatly a power supply issue, like Acemilo said, redo the two power points.

i checked the soldering with the power points with a strong magnifying glass, and there is no problem with it. the points are firmly connected, and not touching anything else.

any other possible problems? should i contact team cyclops?

Are you using 30 gauge for power points?

Also did you wire reset button or switch, if reset button make sure its not shorted.

I would suggest burning a disc at 2x and 4x its only dvd-r's which are cheap and see if they work.

as i alreayd stated, the backups work on another modded wii, that's not the problem.
and i did not wire the update or reset switch at all, so those aren't the problem.
as for the gauge, it's the same stuff i sue for all my other systems modchips, so i assume that's not the problem

Until you resolder the power and ground points, theres nothing you can do. A weak led means not enough power, so its definitely the soldering.

ok, i undid the solders on the power and other points, and re-soldered them. it's the exact same problem, dim led light. i seriously wonder if this unit is defective in recieving the power somehow

Measure the voltages coming off the chip with a multimeter, it should be I think 3.3 or 3.5 volts. If its anything less, its not getting enough power. If it is reading right it may be a defective chip or you may have a bridge or a short somewhere.

Have you installed the 3.0 update yet? There are some rare wii's that have a power issue that was fixed with the 3.0 update. Here is what Team cyclops wrote to me about it before the update came out.

Dear Customer,

Sorry for the late answer.

One customer having the problem you described sent us his Wii, and what we
belived was an installation problem is in fact a problem with some
CycloWiz V1 due to some difference in power circuit on some rare Wii
units. This made the issue very hard for us to reproduce, because of its
rarity we weren't able to find such a problematic Wii by ourselves.

The upgrade will fix the issue. In fact CycloWiz sold in branded bags
don't have this problem at all.

In the meantime there is an easy workaround: Simply turn on your Wii (make
sur the LED was red, not orange) without any disc inserted and with the
upgrade switch enabled. Disable the switch afterwards, then insert the
disc. It should work fine.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Should you have any more question
don't hesitate to contact us again.

Best Regards,
Team Cyclops - Tech Support

They mean the led on the wii itself, not the chip. The chip only has a green led. If what he posted doesn't help, you have probably got a bad chip, so you will have to return it.

I actually had the problem that Team Cyclops gave him an answer for. What is happening to him. is not the same thing. My power light would keep blinking and i did the whole switch trick. That worked.. unfortunately, that chip wouldn't upgrade and died. I had to buy another cyclo, and as promised, the v2, had no power issues. I was promised a new chip to be sent to me sometime this week by team cyclops.

No. The chip is totally dead. No light after i tried to upgrade it. I won't touch tha t chip with a ten foot pole again. I just hope they actually send me a new chip.
