Hey there, im thinking of getting a wii modchip, and probably the wiid, since its the only one sold in the city where i live (groningen, netherlands)
So here are my questions:
Will the wiid run NTSC backups on my PAL wii ? It says it does in the list but it says (partially without swapping). Partially without swapping? Which games work without swapping, and what games do? And swap with what, theres no bootdisks out yet AFAIK
How about online games? It seems pokemon battle revolution is out in japan, and with WFC support, the japanese boxart has the NWFC logo on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PBR_case.jpg Has anyone tried this on a modded wii yet with a backup? Does it work, can you play online with backups of games?
Anyway id be very happy if you could anwser these questions, if possible, ill get one asap :)

Okay I modded my PAL Wii using a WiiD chip. However import games have to be patched first before they can be played. In my case, I have to patch NTSC Metalslug, Cooking Mama and DBZ:BT2 to PAL first. My Wii refused to play them if they are unpatched even after I upgraded the chip to the 02 firmware.

Crap that sucks, really dont like to patch everything beforehand :(. How does this patching work? Do you have a link to the patches? Or if you could PM that if thats illegal on these forums or something. And do these patches work for all games? And do you have to wait for a patch if new games come out ?

I dont know whether the region-free firmware update for WiiD works or not because my Wii's behaviour is almost same before and after the upgrade process.
Patching only take a few seconds to be done. The compatibility list is on the following link. The links to the patchers are at the bottom of that page.

Ah man that list is terrible, a lot of the big titles like zelda dont work. So if i new game comes out, ill probably have to wait till an PAL version of the game is out? That stinks, EU release dates are horrible. The main reason i want a modchip is to play the games before they come out here in europe, because everything gets released months later here :(
I dont suppose theres any other modchips that will play all ntsc games on pal wii's right?

I have personally tested NTSC Metal Slug Anthology on my PAL Wiid with the 2.0 upgrade and it works without patching.
Just make sure you follow the instructions for the firmware update.
What burning program did you use for the update? I used Nero at 4x on a DVD-R if it helps.

my question to you guys is what made you buy the wiid chip instead of cyclowiz, wiikey, wiinja?
...just curious.

I used NTI to burn the update iso at 2x on a DVD-R because imgburn refused to burn it. It was my fault that I "ASSUMED" all NTSC backups have to be patched first because I failed to play NTSC DBZ:BT2 without patching after the 2.0 update. After that I straightaway patched all NTSC isos without testing them first and they work perfectly after patching. I'm redownloading NTSC Metal Slug to confirm if my upgrade was successful or not.
I'll give you an update on this matter later. Thanks for replying :D

Frankly speaking, I've been taken for a ride by a reseller. I ordered wiikey from them but they failed to fulfil them even after about a full month. I became impatient and ask them which chip that they have in stock and ask them to send any available chip to me. They are listed as a distributor at Cyclowiz & Wiid websites but not Wiikey. I suspect that they NEVER ordered wiikey from their supplier but keep telling me the stock will arrive in "a week". I keep getting the same response everytime I emailed them. That's how I got this chip. Whatever it is, I don't really care as long as the chip works for me.

All drive chips offer more or less the same functions.
I excluded cyclo from my choice because of the way they handled the whole update thing, making promises they did not keep.
Wiikey because of the whole gc games with streaming audio not working properly and people are still waiting for an update.
Wiinja : I didn't know where to buy it :)
Wiid so far does everything the others do (actually more) and they have already released two firmware updates so my choice was made based on the support behind the product.

been reading reviews online today. people are pretty happy with this chip including some guy said they emailed support for some questions and they emailed him back with answers quickly.
they had also fixed an error message during updates on their website rather quickly it said.
seems like it's very good support so far i just wish that they would've given the chip a more serious name.
wiikey needs to catch up!!

So wiid is one of the better chips? Thats great. Otherwise id have to travel halfway across the netherlands to get my wii chipped.
So how about the online thing? has anyone tried that pokemon game to see if it works online (if it even runs)
EDIT: it doesnt run i see in the lists. So only someone with a japanese wii could anwser that i guess :(

if you can get access to wiid chip since that is closer anyways just get that. you're lucky it's having pretty good support so far. i'd do the same if i was in ur situation.

It is confirmed that the update iso is not burnt correctly using NTI. I'll try upgrading using nero after this.

They have just updated the site with a new iso that shoud be compatible with all burning software. You might want to check it out.

Thanks for the heads up mate. I burned the new iso using imgburn and now NTSC backups works on my console without patching :)

Anyway, it looks pretty clear. Wiid is a good modchip, and with all most of the NTSC games wont run on my pal wii, which means ill have to wait for EU versions, which sucks. But i dont think this will change any time soon, and if it will i hope a modchip or bootdisk will do the trick, instead of getting a whole new chip.
So i think im gonna get me myself some wiid this week.

I've had the WiiD in mine for about a month and it's been great, easy to install and haven't had a prob.
