You can't flash the drive via GC-Mode. maye it can be done in Wii-Mode, but I wouldn't count on this.
So when Wii-homebrew is possible there MAY be a softmode, but there could be no way for one even with Wii-homebrew.

as far as I am aware, u cannot 'flash' the dvd drive at all, but you could modify the firmware of the wii itself to accept all media (in time, and alot of work) there is work on this front, but as to how far this has come... no idea.

To awnser your question... Time will tell.

Not sure bout max media launcher, but if it works, it would only be GCMODE not WIIMODE Homebrew/unsigned code.

No it doesn't boot at all. it's just a PCprogramm to transcode your media-stuff into Wii-format.

I believe, that the drive itself shuts down when it detecs a non-valide disc. So it wouldn't work just to flash another Wii-firmware. If it would you could allready run GC-Softmodes.
