Make sure everything is connected snug and fit. My first boot, the wireharness was not pushed into the chip hard enough. Also make sure you hooked up the flexwire propertly. I have pics in my review of how it should go.

Thanks.I have tryed lots of things now still get black screen when turn cube on.I cant flash the qoob as the cable looks like its hadit so if i flash by dvd can i do this or because of black screen will it not work. Also how do you flash by dvd thanks.

you have to have a working bios on there first, before that you can't flash in any way but through USB.

Where i am at the moment is i have checked & double checked everything.I cant get the usb to work as the cable is broken somewhere as when i move it i get both the lights come on but wont stay on.When i boot up the cube i get black screen but the green light in on the qoob. Its like there isnt a bios on there but i have noticed the laser dont move is it t supposed to cheers.

SO the USB chord is messed up? Try contacting the reseller and ask them for a replacement USB cable.

Gamecube Nick

Its not the usb cable itself i dont think its the cable that goes between the little board & the main one the gold cable.as for the chip i desoldiered all wires gamecube worked resoldiered the wires again same thing just black screen the cd doesnt do anything etc wondering now if its a bad chip.Any advice welcome

Does the light on the chip turn on?

Gamecube Nick
04-27-2005, 11:36 AM
Yes the light on the chip is on i have tried pushing in the white conector a bit more & the light went brighter but still nothing happened thanks.

Xboxmodder999

So you do or you don't think it's the flex cable that goes between the chip and the USB board?

Gamecube Nick
04-27-2005, 11:50 AM
Well the flex cable is dodgy as when i moved it around the qoob was detected then it wasnt so i have e-mailed gamefreax to let them know. Also gonna look for anouther one in mean time but i still cant get anything.I used soldier which was lead free but with silver in it i hope it ant that!!!.

Xboxmodder999
04-27-2005, 12:14 PM
It sounds like you soldering is fine, I'm guessing that is it the flex cable. You have pulled out the little cream colored peice of plastic, inserted the flex cable, then pushed the plastic peice back in right?

Gamecube Nick
04-27-2005, 12:19 PM
Yeah thats the way i read on this board so i done the same.I only got the light working on the chip & not on the little board only if i wiggled it it sometimes worked. As for the chip still no go it just seems something anit right but what i dont know how bright should the light be on the chip mine is on but not very bright but gets bright when i mess about with the whit connector but i cant push it in anymore. cheers.

Think that you could take a picture of where the white wire harness connects to the chip? Also is there any phycical damage to the flex cable?

Mako

That thin cable isn't very sturdy. I pushed back a few of the teeth on the end that goes in to the usb chip. i had to straighten them out to get it to work right. The cable is a good idea but I think they should have found a better solution to connect them since it is such a tight fit.

I'm beginning to wonder if their is a bad batch of qoob's out there. I still haven't found anyone that had a bad qoob that ordered from foundmy.com.

I purchased mine from FoundMy and I have 0 issues. I had a few user error issues but that is because I am a bit slow in the head sometimes :)

Sorry cant get pic at mo but i am working on it.As for bad batches i got mine from Gamefreax & i'm in the Uk so i hope it anit as i waited 2 weeks as it was after keep e-mailing them to see where it was. Also i have just found out that when i take the chip out & turn gamecube on i get the normal bios come up & you can play. When i plug the QOOB back in black screen its deff like there isnt a bios there for it to boot. But i cant try that with this damaged fcc cable where can i get one from cheers.

I also ordered from foundmy and have zero issues.

I have give up for today.I still think that the chip has no bios on it .I dont know what its supposed to have on it bit i have nothing wrong with the wires or white connection so it must be a bad bios or curopt chip .I will keep ya posted when i get anouther cable or repair this one cheers.

I think that it is supposed to have either Qoob bios 0.5 or 1.0 on it, not sure which one. I know mine had one on it, but deleted it and replaced it with Qoob bios 1.1 before even turning it on(it now has Qoob bios 1.2 on it)

Thanks M8.I wish i had flashed it to v1.2 before i installed it then i would have know one way or the other what was wrong.Any way to fix this fcc cable anyone?.

I had a problem connecting to the qoob but then I rechecked the installation instructions and realized I had inserted the flex wire cable wrong. The blue side should be on the top for both ends.

Now I could connect to the qoob and see that 1.0 is preloaded. Unfortunately, I am getting a black screen as well so my soldering job must be bad. I have never soldered anything before so I blame myself
:(

i just received my q00b from foundmy.com today and had my expert uncle install the modchip and do the soldering

this is what is happening:

I can hook up the USB and flash the bios onto the chip no problem...so the chip is not faulty.

When I hook it up...i do'nt get the green LED on it...unless I hold the white connector in place with my fingers while its on...if i release i get a dimmer LED....

and I also have a black screen, no matter what. I am thinking it MAY be the soldering as I did have an issue with the purple wire where there was ONE loose strand from the bunch that did not make it onto the IC...so i snipped it away...knowing that from most electronics one strand makes no difference.

otherwise it seems fine but again I get no bios...even though I have flashed Bios 1.2 onto it no problem using the windoze tool

hope anyone can help...i'm about take apart and re-solder it all over again....any suggestions?

Mind taking a picture of where the wire harness connects to the chip? I believe this has something to do with your guy's problems.

patelnet
04-28-2005, 12:43 AM
here's a pic with the green light on..because i managed to prop it in such a way that it would stay on...but still no green LED...me thinks bad soldering for the other wires besides 5V....

or the white connector has some other pins out of wack

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 01:10 AM
Even though the image is very blurry;) , I can see the problem. THe wire harness is not fully inserted into the holder on the chip. It is kinda a hard to get in,(at least compared to the vipers). What you need to do is pull the end of the white connector(the one with the wires coming out) slightly outward, this will allow the other end to slip behind the outer edge of the holder on the chip, which will then allow you to fully insert the connector.

Oh, and Gamecube Nick, I believe that this is also what is causing your problems. I have attached a picture of the harness inserted fully into the chip holder(I don't know what else to call it:))

omigod!

now i see it

i write this now as I just went ahead and dismantled the cube....then seeing ur picture...I tried inserting it harder...since i had more mobility and flex to work with...and voila!

sweeeet

once again my good friend xboxmodder u have come thru :-D

i do hope this is the reason why

thnx!

i shall post results after i put my GC back together..

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 01:23 AM
I'm almost possitive thats the reason why. The reason I started thinking that was the case was because both you and gamecube nick said that when you messed with that, the LED would go brighter, so it led me to believe that it was loose. And I also noticed that when I was installing mine, you kinda had to do what I mentioned above to get it in.

patelnet
04-28-2005, 01:29 AM
okay.......well now there is no problem with the Light.....

but still get a black screen...got all the wires in..did the lid switch...plugged in a controller and put in a mem card for good measure.....

no disc spin....(got an original in it)....and black screen....

question i have is...wit the soldering...when u bridge the 2 points

do u put the black wire on the left or right mound?

i have mine running along both connected with solder

possibly post a nice clear res picture of the Install area? most of the reviews i've seen so far and guides have blurry pics taken of the install area....i wanna see exactly how it should look

thnx

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 01:35 AM
As long as the black wire is connected to either one(or both), and both points are connected to each other then thats how it's supposed to be.

patelnet
04-28-2005, 01:40 AM
hmm....so what else could it be....

the ONLy other thing that may seem weird is as i mentioned before...that I lost one strand from the purple wire when I was soldering and snipped it off to keep it from touching the other parts of the IC...

any other ideas?

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 01:43 AM
That one strand doesn't matter. What revision gamecube is you motherboard?

patelnet
04-28-2005, 01:45 AM
its one of the first ones....bought it back last november 2003....DOL 001 NTSC ...not sure the Revision but i'm assuming its A or B..

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 01:55 AM
So you installed it using the Rev A/B install manual for the Qoob pro from their website, which is located HERE (http://www.qoobchip.com/images/diagrams/qoob_pro_gc_ab.jpg)

Make sure that everything is installed on exactly the right points.

patelnet
04-28-2005, 02:02 AM
yup ...follow to a T....had some difficulty with the yellow and purple but got them on...i just re-verified them again with some lighting and a magnifying glass to make sure there is nothing touching anything else.

and as I said the black wire is crossed over the bridge...

this is really perplexing

EDIT:

OMFG it works!

all I did was move the wires, jiggle it around on the IC with the yellow and purple...re-arranged it to be flatter....OMIGOD!....beautiful q00b 1.2 Glory.....

lol now time to buy a dvd burner.. :S

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 02:09 AM
I suggest you get the NEC 3520a burner. As it is the best burner(there is also the Pioneer 109), for GC games, and also just about any other media. I can also personally recommend it, as I have it, and I have never had a DRE(I'm using Ritek GO4 mini's)

By the way, I'm glad you got it working, but now I must got to bed:)

patelnet
04-28-2005, 02:20 AM
yup thatz the one i'm planning to pick up tomorrow anyhow...i get it for 65 CDN $....so thatz a steal (nec 3520)....and since I work for Best Buy i get those mini-dvdr maxells which are ritek g04 dye for like 50 cents each...i'd rather have those than change the look of my case......maybe one day.. :-D

thnx a whole lot buddy I do appreciate you helping me out and listening to my probs ...

I'd just like to say MAD respect to XBOXModder999 for his HUGE help within this scene and more recently in the q00b chip stuff

Thanks Patelnet & xboxmodder999.

I have tried again this morning resolidered all points got the multimeter out & check all is fine plugged in the chip the led lights up check points on white plug to the wires on board all are fine.Points of the chip to wires on board all are fine. Now i still get the black screen .Only thing happened is that the gamecube will now work when i have the lid bypass connected & not the chip .but as soon as i connect the chip black screen nothing. So i'm thinking now that when i tryed to connect the fcc cable yesterday & got nothing i mite have blowen the chip as i have no way of testing it.I dont know if anybody has one near me in the Uk oh here but its looks like i've lost 85 euros :(.

Vollstrecker
04-28-2005, 06:17 AM
holy ****! You bought a qoob for 85 €?!?!

what about waranty?

Gamecube Nick
04-28-2005, 07:37 AM
i think i have found the problem. The black socket where the white plug goes into seems to be loose. This morning when i pushed the white plug in hard i got it to boot.Up camt the qoob bios & it worked untill it came up with lid wire error.I darent push any harder as i miter brake the black socket. So it looks like it was faulty all along. So i have e-mailed gamefreax to hopefully send it back .Will i have to desolider the wires or can i just send the chip back.I dont want to solider the socket as the point are smallish thanks..

I know my harness is plugged in all the way. Guess I'll be playing around with it some more and hopefully become a bit better skilled at soldering.

@ gamecube nick,

Did you see kmy picture and explanation on the previous page? Before you desolder everything , make sure you look at that, as I am pretty sure thats your problem(You do not have the wire harness plugged into the chip all theway)

Gamecube Nick
04-28-2005, 09:31 AM
@ xboxmodder999

Yes i did see the pic thanks .Thats what made me try again.I have pushed it in as far as it would go even further than your picture. What happens is one first turn one the led is very dimm push the white plug hard & it gets brighter but still black screen .I have tryed everything sine 8am this morning but as soon as i turn it off & back on the led is dimm again so there is a bad point somewhere.Could be white plug but more lightly the chip.Oh and i noticed something else the cap with 16000 now rattles ummm.

I found my problem. The black wire and soldering bridge wasn't perfect. The Qoob now boots... but... When I load a game, the video is shifted to the right by about 1/8th of the screen. Very strange considering the Qoob screen is fine.

Does anybody know what's going on here?

Xboxmodder999
04-28-2005, 09:46 PM
TX-ram, go into the original bios, and then in to screen settings and adjust the screen until it's how you want(I think this is what is causing your problem).

tX_ram
04-28-2005, 09:50 PM
I'll try that once Survivor is over :)

Edit: I went into the settings and it informed me that they were incorrect. So it reset the settings and now everything is all good.

Thanks for your extremely fast help :)

It just didn't look like the bridge was connected enough so I redid that one point.

I only used solder to bridge them... a lot of it :) It's probably not a proper job but I tried my hardest :(
