Just got my Qoobchip this weekend and installed it in a my new cube I bought today! See pics here:

I ordered the Qoob Pro bundle from www.foundmy.com that comes with the Qoob Pro modchip, USB cable, qoob sticker, a Securebit for opening the Gamecube and 5pcs of MINI-DVDR 4x. Disassembly was pretty easy - the only effort exerted was prying the heatsink off.
Soldering the wires on is even easier than installing a PSOne modchip and there's nothing like Xbox D0 to worry about - just nice fat solder points. The only real work you have to do is cutting out a small part of the internal metal casing in order for the wires to fit through to the side of the case
Once installed I turned on my Gameqoob and it booted very quickly right to the Qoob BIOS. I then connected my Gameqoob to my PC via the USB cable and flashed the new Qoob BIOS v1.1. The Qoobchip has 16MBits of onboard flash which comes out to 2 Megabytes (8bits=byte) if I'm not mistaken.

After that I flashed the GCoS 1.4 dol directly to the modchip, restarted, held X and selected it from the menu. Booted right up to GCoS. I then changed my IP address to match my network and connected the console to my router. Next I selected the backup option from GCoS and started to backup my copy of MGS Twin Snakes. It took almost an hour but it successfully created a 1.4GB ISO to my desktop. The only issues are that it displayed REI errors several times even though it completed the transfer. I have no idea what these REI errors are. I haven't tried making an ISO via http with Qoob 1.1 because my subnet is different and was too lazy to change it.

I then proceeded to try to burn the ISO using Nero to one of the included mini DVDRs. It failed with all 5 discs at 3% making coasters. I think I'm doing something wrong and will have to research it. If you know what the problem is let me know.
Aside from the media problems which is most likely user error  the Qoobchip is a very nice modchip with highspeed memory and plenty of flash room. I hear it even has support for multi disc DVDs! Although it is an expensive modchip I feel I made the right choice and can't wait for the upcoming BIOS releases! Let the fun begin!
EDIT:
I successfully burned the MGS ISO I created using 8x Ridata DVD-R. Burned at 8x - tested it and it works like a charm! Looks like I'll be purchasing the replacement top case from bstconsole.com so I don't have to keep my cover off. Currently mini DVD-Rs are $1 a piece. On the other hand, you can get 100pcs of big DVD-Rs at $35. Looks like it makes more sense to go that route. If there's a high enough demand here in SD i'll probably end up buying the cases and chips wholesale.
