I'm using the Independence softmod solution w/ my v9 ps2, and I cannot get PSX or PS2 backups to work with a swap trick. I can play games I've put on my hard drive(HDLoader). I made a slide tool from a credit card and template I found online. My friend who has a hard mod says I'm doing the swap trick right. I can get the SNES emu to load ROMs from a CD using the swap trick. To do the swap trick, I've tried using cogswap and also a media player(I forget which) - neither worked. Cogswap just spun the new disc up and kept going and nothing happened.

1) Is there a newer version of cogswap available than 1.0?
2) Does the size of the original PS1 game matter to load a PS1 backup? (I know it does for PS2)
3) Any other suggestions?

I've spent *forever* looking on different forums, googling, and trying stuff out on my own. I appreciate ANY input on this. Thanks.

Are you really sure that you're doing the swap trick right? It was confusing to me when I first tried to do it too.

1)Put an original PS2 DVD into the drive without slide tool and let Cogswap recognize it.
2)Press button (I forget which one, but it will say "swap now" or something like that after you press)
3)Using the slide tool, put the backup DVD into the drive. You cannot let the PS2 know that you opened the drive here.
4)Press button again to load backup.

I've never tried a backed up PSX game, but I assume you do the same thing but start with an original PSX disk instead of a PS2 DVD.

Yeah, I do it exactly as you say, unless there's something else to making the PS2 not notice you're doing the swap other than just not pressing the eject button.

To do the swap, I put slide card in left of middle, slide right, tray ejects a little, and I pull it out the rest of the way.
I swap discs.
To put back in, I push it, and catch the little spot on the far right, and pull it to the left.

When I used the eject button on the SNES emu to load ROMs off CD, it diddn't work, but when I used the swap trick (as it says to do), it worked fine. I assume that means I'm doing it right. And I've seen vids of people doing it, and I'm doing it the same way. There must be something else to the puzzle.

i had the same problem, it would load all the ps2 games but it would not load psx games. I have tried everything to make the psx games to work, but cogswap isnt really compatable. I just bought real gameshark cd for a psone and load it from that. Start the game without cheats and swap it when it says "make sure game is in". Hope this helped

I was doing the swap right, but cogswap just didn't work on my v9.

For anyone else out there, I found PSXLOADER.ELF (I dunno rules for posts, so just google it - only 1 site), and that allowed me to do the swap. Also, the size of the original psx cd DOES matter when loading another. So, I need to find a really big one.
