Several WiiKey Clones on the Loose, Disc Dumper Update

The WiiKey team has announced that there are now several clones of their mod in circulation. The 'best' cloner out of them all is <a href="http://www.wiikey.com.cn" target="_blank">Wiikey.com.cn</a>. Some clones are reported not to work 'properly' and will not upgradae, while some do upgrade okay. In related news, they also shown off a new version of their bootable config disc which will feature a disc dumper that can be used with a sdcard adaptor. It came to our attention that there are clones of the wiikey chip in circulation. There are already different versions of clones. The best way to identify a clone is to check the IC printing removal. You can find the most outrageous cloners at www.wiikey.com.cn - they are in no way affiliated with the original wiikey team.

Many clones do not work properly and do not surpass the same quality checks as the original wiikey. Some clones already fail when booting the upgrade discs. It is very doubtful that they will work with original wiikey future upgrades - in fact the wiikey team will put all efforts into making the disc upgrades incompatible with any kind of clones. There are also clones that get defect after a few days of operating time. The improvement of the config disc and the development of software upgrades is only guaranteed when using an original wiikey. Our RMA policy is not valid for clones. If you are not sure if you bought a clone or not just contact us - we will help you to identify it.

Damn it...I hope I haven't been duped. I received my WiiKey from mod-chip.com, an advertiser on this site. I installed it and it appears to work just fine (I've never tried the configuration, but the iso does boot). However, they are not listed on the official Wiikey website as a reseller.

I had also compared it to a picture of a known fake that was on the front page of Maxconsole here http://www.maxconsole.net/content_img/wiikeyc.jpg and it looked good.

Any ideas on whether or not mod-chip.com is a true reseller?

yes we even got another fake wiikey picture to update on the website i will get it post it soon.

SD Gecko adapter
allows you to plug a SD card into your GC memory slot.
it was used for homebrew apps (not for saving games)
but now can be used for dumping too.

I ordered mine from Mod-Chip.com also. From all of the pictures I have seen it matches up with the original (B10 resistor, smaller c1-c2) and I have had it installed for over 2 weeks with out any problems.

Im also wondering about the SD dump.
im hoping it does something like break the rip into 1GB chunks
so: rip 1st gig to SD, remove card dump to computer, erase card.
rip 2nd gig, remove card dump to computer, erase card, lather rinse repeat

I think it will dump in sectors because they can't expect everyone to have 8gb sd cards (the only size that would be big enough)

with the money you spend on the sd card plus the adapter you can buy a dvd drive for your pc and dump easier.

unless the widget was a sd card to USB or SATA adapter so you could plug the wii into your computer and dump directly.

There is no way for them to access the Wii's SD slot from GC mode. Which is what this is.

i bought from them, my chip is installed so i can't check but if the thing doesnt update... im gonna file a fraud complaint and my credit card company will go after consolesource.com and i will get a refund.

i bough mine from there, it was NOT a clone. that i'm not sure if it was because i ordered it preorder before it was even released to be cloned or what, i have no idea if they are now selling clones or not. i guess people have been emailing and asking and were being assured they sell only legit wiikey's.... so do your thing :P

mine also installed. id rather not take my wii apart again if i dont have to.
it seems to work so far and so does the wiikey setup disk.
