PS2 Info/Help

I am wondering is there a good place to find a tut on how to install a hard drive in the PS2? I know this sounds lame but I have searched a couple sites now and havent seen anything specific. My question is can I go and just buy a big hard drive and some how hack and install it - or do you NEED to buy the Final Fantasy HD and then swap out the HDD.

all u need really is a maxtor 40GB or larger HD and just install it with the network adapter (make sure HD is set to master) and load any HD software you want and thats it, there isn't anything really difficult in setting it up.

OK Cool thank you for the info - went out and got a 200GB HD and Adapter. Now any links/info on what software is easy to use and best?

You can use HD Advance 2.0 and 2.1 to use the 200 gig HDD in PS2.

All you need is...

PS2 Model v3-v11
HDD (0-200 GIG)
Official Sony Network Adapter

If you are interested in transfering ISO files to the HDD I would suggest a tool called WinHIIP as it can transfer a game from the DVD Drive or from the computers HDD in 1/20th of the time it takes to transfer one from the PS2 DVD-ROM drive.

If you happen to have a PSTWO (v12) you are going to have to install the IDE hack or wait for the commerical version of Xtender's IDE hack to come out.

Though to use the IDE hack with your PSTWO (v12) you're going to need to purchase a DMS 4 PRO chip and flash it with the Toxic BIOS v0.3

Do not, I repeat NO DOT purchase USB Extreme/Advance as it is terribly slow and renders games playless due to obsessive load times, skipping FMV, etc.

If you want to support a HDD larger then 200 gigs you're going to need to either install the DMS 4 Pro chip and flash it with the Toxic BIOS v0.3 or use the cracked HD Loader with LBA48 support. Doing this will let you use a hard drive up to 2 terrabytes.

I personally have this setup ...

PS2 (v3)
DMS 4 Pro w/Toxic OS v0.3
Network Adapter w/400 GIG IDE HDD

and ...

PSTWO (v12)
IDE Hack (home made)
DMS 4 Pro w/Toxic OS v0.3
400 GIG IDE HDD

Both work perfectly and can boot *ALL* DVD9 games!
