most of the viper owners tweak thire POTS,anyone knows if the Qoobpro needs POT tweaking also? I fucked up 2 ps2 laser units when i was playing the"tweaking"game with the POTS, so i freaking hate to do POT tweaking.

Tweaking the POT has nothing to do with what modchip you have;)

The modchip does not effect if your gamecube cannot read backups well(or at all). Ps2 lasers are a lot more sensitive then the gamecubes ones, just get a multimeter, and be reasonable when you are tweaking.

I think its best to invest a few bucks in a multimeter that reads ohms. If you put it on the correct points and take your time, I doubt you can mess up the laser. I have also heard (dunno if this is true or not) but that the newer GC DOL-101's read backups better than DOL-001's. The cube I bought on friday was DOL-101, so I will find out shortly.

Yes, though it depends a bit,

I tried some normal sized sony dvd-r (8x) and burned them at 4x and they worked perfectly without having to tweak the pot.

Then I tried the memorex mini- dvd-r, which were recommended by the website I ordered my qoob, but I haven't succeeded to finding a working setting, they give errors 90% of the time. The big sony dvd-r's kept working on most settings, though there was a point when the cube didn't recognize them.

So now I ordered a new case that allows bigger dvd's to be used on the gamecube

The only way that you will be able to know, is to get the chip, burn a few games(on good media), and then see how it goes.

Sarin,
Which place did you order a new case from? Gamecubecases.com?

I just noticed this morning that they have an iced version now, it looks pretty good. With this one, you could either bend the power LED flat, so that you can see it through the front, or entend the LED, so that it is far enough out that the dvd doesn't cover it.

Hi, I'm new to the whole GCN scene, but I'm working my way around the place.

I'm curious about POT tweaking. I did this for my PS2, but I'm just curious about one thing. Am I right to assume that each type of DVDR media would have a different "preferable" POT setting? Due to the difference in the dye? Also due to the difference of the lasers in the various model of GCNs? Just wondering.

The GCN scene seems a lot more interesting with these newer developments....makes me almost wish I didn't sell my first one. ;)

this case looks very interesting.

@import_tuner:

the best value is recommended to be around 170 - 210 but I hear some have better results with setting it to 217. So this might also depend on the dol version your gc has. But if you do a laser mod be sure not to go below 80 ohm it could destroy your laser.

the case looks nice, except that you dont get the bottom. It will look stupid with the indigo bottom.

I could easily make one, just take the top of one of my balck controllers, and add to to the clear bottom.
