They posted this:
NOTE: The official version of the qoob bios available for download on this site does not support unoffical (backup or pirated) versions of licensed software. It will only allow 'homebrew' (unlicensed) software to run. qoob chips are intended for software development, not for piracy! We will not answer any emails regarding loading pirated, licensed software.
So if you just ordered a qoobchip and cannot get your backups to run, you will need to download Release Canidate 5 which allows you to run backups. This has already come up before in this forum and I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I have attached RC5 to this thread so you can run your backups. As always, mods please delete if I did anything wrong.

No, the bios on their site does not allow backups (aka copies of original games) to boot.

They also released their un-official rc4 on the boards, which allowed you to play backups, but dvd+r direct boot was not availible.

xboxmodder, thanks for the info btw, which boards are you talking about? (I dunno if they have one board they release the bios at) also, I just wanted to let you know your qoob should be shipping soon from foundmy.com. They sent me a email last night with my tracking #. I can't wait to get mine, can you tell?

I think that it was actually released on maxconsole, but I'm not sure.
That sounds really lame. Less than 1% of those buying chips are actually looking into homebrew development. But I guess they are just trying to cover their asses.

Thats how it is with the Xbox, the chip makers don't but the bios on their site, becuase that would make it easier for microsoft to take them down. You have the get all the bios's and programs from ftp servers.

yea unfortunately, they can't put bios up that bypass the copy protection or they will get sued. Just like xboxmodder said, its the same way with xbox. After I got my xecuter 2.3b i had to head over to mIRC to get a good bios besides that cromwell linux crap.

the problem is they advertise Qoob as a chip that does no-swap media booting, yet it doesnt do it out of the box or with the bios provided on the site (witch the chip comes preflashed with)
thats gonna be confusing for users who arent famailiar with these forums.
Atleast with Viper people know what theyre getting (a blank chip witch requires a "third party" bios)
i think Qoob underestimated the legal aspect and had to change their plan at the last minute. afaik the real booting backups bios was available on the site at first
anyone that is in to this scene has to know better. Ignorance isn't the fault of the company. Anyone who has half a brain should know that if they openly offered items that circumvented the copyprotection that they wouldn't last more than a few hours before lawyers swarmed all over them.
