Follow the trace from the non working pad and it should lead you to one of the legs on the chip. You can solder your wire there but you have to be real careful. I've heard a good way is to use two razorblades to isolate the one leg and solder then....good luck.
Oh yeah look around for pics where people have soldered on the leg so you have an idea.

If it wont stick(solder), give it a good clean and then re-apply a bit of flux to the pad and the tinned wire.

I've heard the razorblade suggestion several times before, and I just don't get it. The first time I heard about it was when installing a PS2 modchip (makes the wii look like child's play!). I actually tried it, but it didn't work at all for me. The pins on the chips are very close together and a razorblad barely fits between them - which leaves only the width of a single pin between the two razorblades. This made it impossible to get the area lighted well, as well as fit both the solder and iron tip between them. This just didn't work for me, though it did sound like a good idea.

You can try just using one razorblade and solder more on that side so it is least likely to bridge on the exposed side.

just use a knife, or any sort of thin blade, like a carpenters blade. Be careful, and dont slice throught your mobo, lol. :D
