Here is a summary of the situation...

2 problems during installation of the Wiikey:

I noticed one of the chip capacitors (one of the 2 under the small wiikey solder points, the right one of the two) is now not there. It must've popped off somehow, but we couldn't find it, nor did we see it pop off. So my question is, will it work without it? I've heard its possible...any experienced opinions?

Second problem, the right corner small solder point pad got ripped out... I traced it to a point on the chip below it, I should just be able to run a wire there, and have it work, right?

Thanks.

Update: I just put it back together and tested it...it worked, at first. Plugged it in, turned it on, everything was fine, started up rayman, played it for a couple minutes, fine. Unplugged it. Then I remembered I should've ejected the dvd, plug it in again, start it up, it says dvd not inserted.

I leave it unplugged for awhile, plug it back in, it works again, I go into rayman, fine, go back to the main menu, it says no dvd again. I unplug it, plug it back in now, with no dvd activity, its not spinning up, not ejecting. So did I blow a fuse? Would the fix on the sticky about the broken dvd drives work for this?

Thanks.

To answer your questions.

If you follow trace you can connect wire anywhere before the next part to work as intended so if trace goes to chip you can solder direct to chip. Or where pad is burnt off scrap laquor off pcb till you see copper on trace and solder to the trace.

For missing piece, trial and error see if system works if not maybe needed. If works may experiense issues down the road or never. Trial and error.

I think you are actually referring to one of the very tiny 0 resisters, if so just solder across it. I had the left one missing after my install, works fine.

I've just discovered that it spins up each time I turn it on, it just spins down right away...

It doesnt read, or eject dvds...any thoughts?

Remove the wire to the power on the chip or to the board and see what happens. Also, check the fuse:

If its the chip, removing the power will fix it but you will need a new chip. If the fuse is blown, bridge it and you should be good.

I should've clarified, the Wiikey is NOT installed on my wii. I'm just trying to get this one working, then I'll sell it, and get a new Wii to install the Wiikey on.

Check the fuse first like I said, if its bridged its ok, if not you will need to bridge it.

Update, for anyone who wants to know:

I checked the fuse, and it was not blown, so I soldered over where that resister/capacitor popped off, and it works fine! Yay! I just have to put the case on and we are good.
