there's always the DsOrganize web browser that supports txt and is pretty neat - i finally got it working, cheers voteforpedro!;) . DSLinux is too geeky for me and DSHobro isnt the best. Gnirfleo says next week which prob means next month at the best :rolleyes: and then there's okiwi which seems to have been in development for ages.

Getting back to the origional question, the answer is that DSLinux and DSOrganize have some text--only web browsers. Okiwi is one homebrew proect that may be coming out with a beta soon, and then there is Gnirfleo, which may or not be someone's idea of a joke. DSOrganize will hopefully eventually work with graphics as well but at the moment there is no decent homebrew web browser. If you really need to surf the web on a DS NOW you gotta order a European Opera browser or make do with text-only.

The DSLinux browsers actually aren't that bad to work with once you get used to not having images. Retawq at least is many times faster at rendering large pages than the Opera browser or the DSO one.

i found these instructions for dslinux:
ifconfig nds up
iwlist nds scanning
iwconfig nds essid CZFree.Net.Ondra.Soukup
udhcp -i nds // typo, sorry ;)
udhcpc -i nds
// after udhcpc gets everything and screams about backgrounding , kill it with [CTRL-C]
free
links
g -> google.com -> dslinux
q - {A button works as Enter}
ssh modrak@my.actual.server.name // -> password ;)
screen -r
// [CTRL-A][CTRL-D] to detach
// [CTRL-D] to logout
links gmail.com // after few redirects and finally to https site, it crashes and tells you place in memory, the lower blurry thing was just "SSL *something*" :)
poweroff // didn't work for some reason
// switch to other console [ALT-F2]
poweroff
But they never work for me, i've checked case/spelling/spaces etc...
bgmnt - could you explain where this goes wrong or how to do it please, thanks :)

there's a patch for the opera web browser to enable it to run off certain slot 2 flash carts such as supercard and M3 but you need a slot 1 device to boot it. It apparently works like a dream:)

Use the Wonderswan plugin for DSO that way the browser + DSO can use ram of your flashcart AKA more speed.

Finny, I personally have never done any of that. I've found a much easier way. Download the following zip file and extract it - http://dannysied.googlepages.com/DSLinux_addons.zip - copy the "wifi" file over to the /linux/usr/bin/ folder. Boot up DSLinux and type "wifi -setup" to setup your rc.conf file using an easy-to-use wizard type prompt. Fill in the appropriate data, and once it's done type "wifi -d" to connect using the default settings you just created. You can also use this script to do many other wifi-related tasks, so type "wifi" without any options to see the full list, which includes things like connecting using DCHP, connecting statically, scanning for APs, scanning and automatically connecting to one using DHCP, and more.
The other script in there is consolechars, which you can use if you want. Put consolechars in /linux/usr/bin/ and put font.psf in /linux/home/. Then bootup and type "consolechars -f font.psf" to increase the font size. It's rather large, but it works.

Thanks mate, but i've copied the file over to where you say and i type wifi -setup and it says wifi: not found , none of the wifi commands are recognised. I should point out i have an R4 so i have a DLDI version of dslinux, should it make a difference?

That's strange, as it should be working. Perhaps it's not mounting the filesystem correctly or something. Does "ls /media" give you a list of the files on your root directory? If it does, then I have no clue what's wrong.
An alternate solution would be to type "cp /etc/rc.defaults /etc/rc.conf" and then "vi /etc/rc.conf". Follow the instructions on the DSLinux wiki on how to use Vi, and use it to edit the config file to your liking. I've had much better success by inputting the information manually rather than using a WFC settings slot, and I think the reason is that because with manual settings, you can specify a channel to use, which makes it connect much quicker. Once you've edited the file and saved it, type "/etc/rc.d/network start" to start the network. You can also use "network stop" and "network restart" to stop and restart the network if necessary.

ls /media doesn't list anything when i do it, but it doesnt return an error, either. i have folders on my card Games , apps , music , dpg
but dslinux and the folder is on the root of the card.
But when dslinux boots up, theirs quite a few error messages i think:
dldi: fn_startup failure
mount: mounting /dev/hda1 on /media failed: unknown error 6
mount: mounting /dev/hda on /media failed: unknown error 6
Sorry, failed to mount DLDI device.
/etc/rc.common : cannot open
quite a few more, i might have slo2 version or soething with all the mention of ram in the code i'm not sure, ill see if i can find another version.
bgmnt
04-21-2007, 01:45 PM
Yeah, it can't mount the media card, which is the issue. Make sure you've downloaded the DLDI version from the downloads page (you probably already have this since the error messages mention "DLDI") and that you have actually patched dslinux.nds with the correct DLDI file. I know that at least the first DLDI versions worked on the R4, so if the latest versions fail you can try those. To find them, go to the DSLinux forums and check the "DLDI" thread in DS Linux Development. The first few pages should contain a few download links for the first releases.

I used a different one, not sure where i got it from or what version, but its one that requires password and user , so i log in and it works fine. but ls /media or wifi again don't work. but thanks for your help mate, really appreciated but it's not worth the bother. DSOrganize browser is easy to use and doesnt involve all the fuss. Thanks though

It's not that hard really. Just go to http://kineox.free.fr/DS/ and download the DLDI build. Not the .ds.gba version, not the WMB build, not the RAM build, not the DSMEM build, etc. Patch it with DLDI. I know it works (or at least used to work) on the R4.
The DLDI build doesn't work on my Supercard miniSD, but then again it never did. It has worked before on the R4.
Actually wait, I think I found the problem. Another R4 user reported that when using Winzip to extract it, it failed. Using 7Zip to extract it made it work correctly. Try that. If it makes a difference, the build the user reported to work was downloaded from http://www.dslinux.in-berlin.de/dslinux-dldi.tgz
finny`
04-22-2007, 05:10 AM
Right, i finally got it working, not sure if it was because of the 7zip thing or because i assumed before the dldi version would be pre patched so i didnt patch it.
But now, when i type wifi, it lists loads of crap then says Out of Memory: Killed process 34(wifi) . so not sure a slot1 device can handle it?
bgmnt
04-22-2007, 11:02 AM
Hm, perhaps you're right. I've only used the script on my SC miniSD with the RAM build. In that case, you'll want to use my previous instructions with the rc.conf file. Just don't use the WFC settings, as I think it uses up too much memory as well. Instead, manually add your info in the areas provided.
Once you've set it up correctly, use the command "/etc/rc.d/network start" to start the network. When the power light blinks rapidly, it has established a connection. If it blinks slowly, then something is causing it to hang up.
Sorry, this is turning into a rather complicated affair, so I apologize for that.

Nah no need to apoligise mate, i really appreciate the help. ill try the rcconfig out later, is their a download for that or is it in the linux folder, sorry i dont have time to look.

04-23-2007, 06:03 PM
Yeah, there's a file at /media/linux/etc/rc.defaults which you use the cp command (copy) to create /media/linux/etc/rc.conf
You can usually just type "cp /etc/rc.defaults /etc/rc.conf" and leave out the /media/linux/ bit.
You then use "vi" or perhaps "nano" to edit the config file. There are simple instructions for vi on the DSLinux wiki, and probably nano too, but I'm not sure.
