Team Cyclops: CycloWiz Disable Wire not needed for Upgrade, Pics of Test Bench

Team Cyclops has posted up an update which relates to their forthcoming software upgrade the CycloWiz mod for Wii. They state that the chip disable going to the rest button is not needed for the update. Also provided is a picture of a part of the test bench. A couple of bugs were found in their upcoming update since their last update, here's to hoping it will be released in the coming days! In related news, Whackawookie, one of the alpha build testers also told us that the new upgrade now features 100 percent compatibility.


We were asked if the chip disable wire going to the Reset button is needed to upgrade. No, it's not needed! Some people are also wondering what kind of tests we are performing. Here is a picture of a part of our testbench. It's a time consuming task, we're making sure everything runs smoothly on a lot of different drives, consoles and chips so that everything will fine on each and every user setup. It also helps us find bugs, a couple were already fixed since last post :) Stay tuned...

One thing that does concern me and I am sure it has been taken care of is the fact its using a gamecube image for the update. Now correct me if I am wrong but is there a way of making a gamecube disk region free? Or will they be doing 3 versions NTSC NTSC/J and PAL. Or will some form of swapping be needed for a PAL update as obviously the region free locks are taken off after the update

Good point. What is taking Cyclo developers so long to implement same features Wiikey had right out of the gate and others (Wiinja Deluxe) have already implemented? I think maybe their developers are not as skilled as the others. :(

Well, I mean, he's right. The WiiKey already does this stuff. I bought the CycloWiz, and I'm having all kinds of trouble. Video playback in most games is unviewable (10 second videos in Tony Hawk skip so much that they take a minute to finish, and Wario stutters), Call of Duty 3 doesn't work at all (crashes at the fucking main menu), and I can't play my imports yet without using RegionFrii, which I'm scared of using because I heard it will toast my chip. This sucks!

Maybe you are not one of the ppl with cyclowiiz< who have a lot of probles with their Modchip, wile everyone else even using free code for pics have better features, and that a Month have passed scince the original: release date, and now they find these "bugs" just to prolong the update

You are the one that decided to rush in and snatch up your chip the second it was out, you can blame yourself as much as you can blame the cyclowiz team for not holding off release for more intensive testing.

Yes, i have a V1 Cyclowiz at the moment and ive experienced all the same bugs and problems as everyone else.

But i also own a store bought copy of Zelda and Elebits which i am currently working on finishing... not to mention a ton of games for other systems to help tide me over.

I really don't think any of this is that big a deal.

They say the update is coming and it is, we've seen video, we're getting periodic updates, testers have permission to release an alpha version if they cant deliver by this friday... what more do you want? The last month of your life back so you can wait on buying a better chip? :rolleyes:

You guys think this stuff is easy! I own a cyclowiz v1 and done many more and yes their are some problems but I'm still and others happy with the product. I prefer waiting than having it rushed! and full of crap and messing up something. Remember, all those saying this chip is not upgradeable? that is going to be proved wrong! one of the reasons this stuff is delayed because of the type of chip.

I'm curious how many ppl will brick their Wii's after they have forgotten to switch the 12V switch to it's off position or accidently switch it on when transporting the Wii. I'm sure not many of the ppl with a Cyclowitz at the moment have a switch installed.

I got my cyclowiz in the mail from cyclowiz.com on march 12th after a bunch of delays etc. I am assuming the one I have is not a version 1 since I got mine so late. I didn't install the disable wire to the reset chip but I did solder the two upgrade wires, however I didn't install a switch, I have the two exposed wires coming out of the case and I am just going to twist them together when the time comes for an update. To me there is no point installing a bulky switch when you are only going to be updating this chip a maximum of 3 or 4 times. I thought about the risks of having the switch accidentally toggled in the wrong direction and screwing something up, so I feel my method will be safest around kids who might mistaken the upgrade switch for a power switch etc. Overall, I am happy with my cyclowiz chip so far. I played a backup of animal crossing, and a backup of red steel and they both played 100% perfect, no stuttering, no sound or video problems. The V1 batch of cyclowiz chips must be where all of the problems are at, but apparently they worked out all of the bugs. The only reason they are being extra cautious about the upcoming update is because they don't want anyone having a screwed up update and breaking their chip. EVERY good company has testing phases to their products and to insult them for trying to iron out bugs is ignorant. I got my chip about a month and a half late, but overall I would rather get a WORKING product late than a buggy product early. "If you want it bad, you will get it bad"

More likely than not it refers to compatibility on your own region. As you know there were some games the CycloWiz didn't run. Maybe they will work in the not so distant future.

i dont know what ppl are talking about when they say video stutters in tony hawk and other games...only video i have stutter is elebits and warioware. I even use the cheap a$$ dvd+r and -r media never a dre and i burn at full speed using img burn. Regarding wiikey if you remember they were how many weeks after the cyclo and wiinja came out? Hey atleast teamcyclops isnt making you buy a whole new gd chip ala wiinja deluxe to update.

I'm a bit confused with this reset wire, I assume the upgrade wires/switch will need to be connected for this update? I didn't fit the upgrade wires as I didn't expect to have to upgrade the Cyclowiz. Anyway I assume I'll be able to temporarily add the wires when the Wii case is open and do the upgrade while the case is open so I can then remove the wires once it is done.
I have to praise the Cyclowiz team, they are taking the safest route and making sure the upgrade works 100%. I know they rushed their product out a bit too quick and I suffered with the closed contacts issue on the chip (which I fixed myself). I just wish they would add 100% Gamecube import capability.

you do need the switch yes. I wouldn't recommend people just connecting wires and twisting them together because you don't just flip the switch and it programs you have to flip it three times.

well first off the word is professional. and second i think they are doing a good job, ofcourse nobody wants to bring up wiinja calling their v1 inferior to their v2 and having bugs yet cyclo goes and tests and finds bugs and informs and someone wants to try and make it negative. honestly im glad they are finding bugs its what software developers do you kno. ide hate to have them just never mention a bug.

well i own a cyclowiz, and i took it out of my console and put in wiinja. Havent had a problem since.

Cyclowiz is a piece of ****, it was untested and now they are taking thier time to release the update which they have been promicing for the last month.

A couple of days, a couple of days, a couple of days, end of the week, very soon. They have outstayed their welcome and should not be avertised. You ask they guy why he is prompoting the wiikey, Emmmmmmmm let me think. because its a better chip, that make scence to you or do you need to see it in the news section of teamcylops website before you believe it.

Lets have a look at the past a little.
Wiinja is released, it works pretty well except on d2b wiis

Cyclowiz is releases and a huge hype is made on max console about how its the first "real mod chip" Low and behold........ it doesnt work. Rayman, CoD dont work at all, wario had sound issues.

Wiinja discover the lack of support for D2b and release v2, they allow people with V1 to exchange it.

Cyclowiz notices error and tell d2b owners that its so rare that they have nothing to worrie about. Incredably rare Chipset wont work with.
"While it's extremely rare for now (we had to fight two days to find one)" from cyclowiz website. they do not offer replacement, instead tell you to go to suplier who told you tough.

Cyclowiz sends out a hugh amount of chips that doent even work and make customers pay for shipping to replace it.

Wiikey chip released, can play diffrent regions, works perfectly. Cyclowiz say it can too with its magical update.

And then we come to today. Wiinja works perfectly, WiiKey works perfectly and cyclowiz, still havent fixed the problem they had in day one. and all they can do is say A COUPLE OF DAYS all the time.

We have assholes like whackawookie, zues and maxconsole saying its the best chip for the wii when its clearly the worst. Even chiip and wiskas and wiifree have fixed the problems with Rayman and cod.

Cyclowiz and team cyclops should just go and shove it. and it whackawookie wants to give out to someone who is promoting a good chip he can go shove it too.

Im no fanboy but I don't believe in putting something down thats a first generation chip that although has fallen short of its promised upgrade date still has something to prove. Had I gotten a wiikey or wiininja first I'd support it just the same because its money spent and you hope for the best until its proven that the best isn't possible. It just so happens that I witnessed first hand the upgrade and its abilities. Its probably easier for me to understand and believe in the chip more because of that alone, i accept that, but trust me when i tell you that its mere days away from release. After that everybody can make there call because the features will be there for all the chips on the market by then. And in my defense though I haven't talked about the chip like its the masiere I just support it when its mentioned. I dont go thread to thread saying get a cyclowiz infact I dont think i've ever said buy a cyclowiz :(

I have faith that the chip is upgradeable and that we'll see an upgrade before too long, but I must say, I can't believe that teamcyclops once again set an expectation and didn't meet it. I'm not talking about the update release, but rather their post saying they would provide daily updates until it was released. All they had to say was that they would try to have it released by the end of the week and most people would be happy (there ARE a lot of idiots on these forums...). Instead they once again over promise and under-deliver, even though no one would have expected daily updates in the first place if they just hadn't said anything about it! They really need to fire their PR person >).
