Hiya, i ordered a batch of wiikey to install in my friends their consoles.
To start off, i modify consoles on a daily basis and can easily state i know how to solder :p. (i do pstwos with ease). I have gotten a cyclowiz from team cyclops to write a review for a dutch community site and installed it into my verry own PAL system. now my friends have all kinds of weird DRE errors where my cyclowiz has never shown me any DRE. For example a game that runs perfectly fine on my cyclowiz will not even boot on the wiikey install wich gives me an error telling me to press eject.
This error can be recreated by any wiikey owner by inserting a disc the wrong way. instead of giving the normal unable to read disc it apparently gives the eject error?
Am i the only one that thinks the wiikey makes it the wii extremely hard to read backups where the cyclowiz actually doenst have an issue since it goes transparrent? I am still testing the way the wiikey handles different media, burners and writing speed but i am starting to think, reading the various
DRE issues people have combined with my experience that there are still some bugs in the wiikeys code!

i dont say its just the wiikey, it might be the media offcourse but my cyclowiz does read everything where the wiikey gives my friends lots of disc read issues.
I am talking about 4 pal wiikey installed systems. And yes the cyclowiz isnt perfect :p but at least all of its problems are "known" and soon updated.
i am just trying to figure out whats wrong with 4 perfectly installed systems giving DRE's where another mod doesnt.

*EDIT*
ok, apparently the wiikey does handle the discs on its own and is therefor a bit pickier!
we noticed that using a disc with a shitty dye runs smooth on cyclowiz while that same discs simply doesnt boot on the wiikey systems but and gives an eject error. after reburning on another disc it now loads on both systems.
the wiikey IS pickier then the current state of the cyclowiz. i hope they keep it transparrent with the comming update!

I can't see how the modchip has any bearing on this as its the drive that does the reading. As far as I was aware the modchip just tells the drive that it is reading a legit disc.

I think there are differences in individual Wii drives which allow some people to play everything they throw at it and others to have tons of DRE's with the same media.

Maybe POT adjustments can help these people in the future.

I have a Wiikey installed for almost a week now and have yet to see a single DRE.

therefor we should find the pot resistor first :p.
anyway i tought the wiikeys code remains active while the game is playing, that is also what is causing the eject error. its handled wrong

did you think about the fact that the cyclowiz uses 2x read speed, thats why it can read bad discs better, but if you use quality media with the wiikey it will run perfect at 6x :)

indeed, 2x speed reduces nearly all dre errors so you will never notice them. Try burning the wiikey setup disc and down the speed to around 3x. Should fix nearly all problems. If you don't want to, then as mentioned before, burn slowly with quality discs!

I haven't tested extensively but it feels like the Wiikey (and mods in general?) aren't handling audio streaming GC games properly like Naruto. I've tested others like Ikaruga and 1080 on the same Ritek 05 media, which my Wii seems to like, and they all result in random black DRE screens at both 3x and 6x with audiofix on and off (scrambled audio). I played through non audio streaming games without any problems. Got through a good chuck of RE:Zero.. before I got annoyed and quit.. feckin archaic control system hasn't aged well with RE4 out there!

Wii games are all DRE-free and play great at 6x.. except for Naruto Shippuden which we all know isn't working. I noticed attempts at booting Naruto enters play history entries of 'onetri1' and 'onetri2' instead of the game title which is wierd.

^^I also cannot get Ikaruga working without DREs. Your audiostream idea makes sense. I hope the chip makers can resolve this.....don't wanna have to go back to emulating that game on PC.
