hey guys
i got my wii chipped on saturday at a place called bowlers
it was 80 quid for the wiikey so i thought i might as well...
anyway, at this place u can walk around coz its a huge computer market, and then once they chipped it u can come bk and pick up ur wii
so i went bk, got my wii, and headed home
i tried red steel, far cry and call of duty 3 (all backups) they run fine!
then i tried the NTSC version of sonic
and it didn;t work
so i downloaded the wiikey config off the net, burned to dvd then tried it on my wii, it worked
i clicked region free = on
and then i clicked save settings reset console
tired sonic and it didnt work
i went bk to the wiikey config to find that the free region = off
so i tried again and again
still no luck
so i started to wonder....
1. did the guy chip my wii with another chip?
2. has the soldered the chip wrong so i can;t update?
3. or is it just me doin something wrong?
what do u think?
i am going to take apart my wii l8r to see if it is another chip
anyway plz help me

The wiikey config menu will always show same settings when you boot up the disc, but the config is saved.
Sonic works for me, but i burned it twice. first time i used bad media. So test it with other ntsc isos/media and I think it will work

Works for me too
80 quid jeez sounds steep to me my wiikey came in at just under 22 quid ( fitted myself though. )
I just want a way to play super swing golf now....

yes i know
but do u think the dealer has put a different chip in?
will the wiikey config work with the other chips? like will it boot up etc?
is there extra wires that need soldering to do the update feature?

It will probably boot up with the other chips. But you can test it if you burn more ntsc games if you have pal. You can also test with ntsc gamecube games if you have.

visit here (http://modchipstore.com/nds-screwdriver-gba-nds-lite-sp-16378.html)
and get you a TriWing Screwdriver to open your Wii and check yourself and if it is not a WiiKey modchip visit www.google.com for Pipe Bomb materials.

well I also have the of always on and did save it on on, then tried budokai tenkaichi 2 on my pal wii and didn't work had to change it to pal with regionfree so that now it works. but shouldn't it work with my wiikey without patching the game?

it should, i hope i haven't got this problem. All my PAL games work fine. Tried a backup copy of a USA version of metroid 2 for GC only to find it resetting and going back to the menu. Tried the swap method but cant get it working either hmmm...

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not alone on this. I have burnt two copies of Wing Island in NTSC format and neither will load on my PAL Wii with WiiKey fitted. I have also burnt a third disc with a RegionFrii patched image on the same media at the same speed etc and it boots no problem.
I also tried changing the read speed from 6x to 3x to see if there was any discernable difference and I have got to say there seems to be no difference whatsoever to load times, drive noise, gameplay - nothing.
Also, why would the boot disc always show generic settings - even if those settings aren't correct? How is the user supposed to know that the settings have actually been applied - 'cos it seems to me that the WiiKey is not updating in any noticeable way. I'm beginning to wonder if the bloody thing is truly upgradeable after all.
Is there anybody out there with a WiiKey in a PAL Wii that can run unpatched NTSC games?
