I have a dsm chipset and the wiikey working intially but now will only boot backups after the power has been disconnected for over an hour, then it will only work for one game, after reset or standby no backups will boot but originals work fine all day long. I did run the setup disc from the wiikey site but still same effect. Anybody else have any recommendations or similar problems with same chipset and wiikey. TIA for any/all help on subject matter.

From your description it doesn't sound like you double-checked everything once it stopped working. I would definitely take it all apart and with surgical precision examine every single solder point; anything that looks even slightly weak should be redone. The good news is it doesn't sound like anything is broken- any kind of intermittent problem is usually a weak or loose connection. Make sure you're using best practices; wires as short as possible, route them around IC's- not over, tape/hot glue everything down neatly, try not to have wires crossing, etc. If using quick-solder method test each combination of points with a multimeter and make sure nothing is bridged. Also make sure every contact that sticks above the main board has some electrical tape over it.

PS- I found this posted by HutHut on a different thread about the same problem. "Try a system format. Mine would load discs properly until I did that. This is a known fix."

Thanks for the information, I checked the install like you said and everything looks good, tried system format (set everything back to default) and still same effect. Tried running the setup disc for wiikey and still same effect. You think it might be the dsm chipset causing the problem or a faulty chip? Like I said it will boot a game if I leave the power unplugged for a while but then it will go back to not reading backups if I turn it off or put it in standby. TIA for all help.

My advice would be to watch the forums carefully for a few days. If you don't see anything just pull the whole chip and start over again. When I did my first PS2 mod chip I ended up installing it 3 or 4 times altogether before finally getting an installation that was perfect.

i have simillar problem. Do you got "Unable to read disc error"? Try to unplug your powercable and plug it back or/and reset wii few times, when you backups don't work.

Yes I wont recognize the disc in the wii game channel.
I have tried reset wii few times dont work at all in relation to solving my problem, it will however work if you leave the power unplugged for hour or so but simply unplugging it for 15mins wont work. When it does work again it will boot 1 game the first try then after that wont boot anything else until its unplugged again for hour or so.

I was over at wiinewz wiikey forums and some people are having the exact problem with a DMS chipset. I can't access the forums right now or the main page, but I think all you have to do is turn the wiiconnect24 off and keep the wii out of standby mode.

I did a system format and have not setup wiiconnect24 or my internet settings and still get the same probs.

Well, if I were in your place I'd stop sweating it and just redo the whole thing. If you used wires, you might want to consider using new wires if you have spare wire available. I say "if I were you" because I'm a bit impatient >). It could end up being a problem with the DMS chipset/Wiikey, but aside from waiting around there is something you can do to make extra sure it's not the installation...and it will only cost you, what, 45 minutes to an hour?

b-ware n00b question!
After a bodgy mod job, i was having the same symptoms as explained above, however i believe i have done a few things to fix the problem (eg check any bridged connections/removed wires from mod and cleaned up the points, formatted wii system memory ect) but now im having problems checking my repair work, after i had performed the repair work, now my wii dvd drive wont accept any discs properly - PHYSICALLY! I go to put a disc in, and the drive slowly starts inserting the disc into the drive, not the normal "smooth" operation as you slightly insert the disc, its sort of stutters and jerks the cd into the drive, very slowly. However, after waiting about a minute or so when the disc is finally inserted, I go to eject the disc and the drive operates the eject function flawlessly. Could this problem possibly be that i may still have a wire bridged? or could it be a possibly totally different thing all together?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :D.
Thx
Quakerz.

Since it ejects fine, I would guess it has nothing to do with the motor mechanism or the common fuse problem. I would say it is indicative of a bridged connection or some similar problem. According to the last news post on Teamcyclops (I know, a different chip but bare with me...) "up until now the chip was becoming transparent just before disc started to spin." If this is the case with the Wiikey then it means that there is a lot of communication going on during/shortly after the disk is inserted- thus if that's the only time the drive is acting up I would guess it's the soldering job/bridged connections. It sounds like the drive is "confused"- receiving bad data. You may want to consider removing the chip (or if you're using wires, remove the wires from the board) and see if everything works again. Even once you've done that, make sure you don't have blobs of solder that are bridging any connections.
