Are PSP's region free?

I was wondering a couple of things, first is the PSP a region free device, like can you play imports in yur PSP without any problems?

Secondly, I just bought my PSP the other day, and I noticed everywhere I look it shows a blue background for the main menu, is the menu supposed to be blue like the pictures or pink? My PSP's menu looks just like the menu I saw on the japanese mirror of sony's PSP site.

It'd be cool if someone could find the answer to that, but if everybody elses PSP has a blue background, then these devices are probably region free because I certainly didn't get japanese versions of these games.

PSP is multi region on games , but not movies ;)

Also the background changes every month. Games are not region encoded (altho on the box it does have a region code), but movies are.

is the umd films lock the same of the dvd?
in other words can i see a europe film in a psps jap?

I believe you can watch european movies on jap psp as regions of europe use Region 2 like JAP.

Maybe with DArk Alex custom firmware 3.10 Oe A', you can see all umd video, activing in Recovery Menù, "Fake ragion" and "Free umd region".But I am not sure of it.

The region free promise in DA's custom firmware, currently does not function. :(
