I'm thinking of buying a modchip and was wondering when i solder it should i be wearing an earthed/anti-static wristband to stop the static frying my wii?
(sorry if this is a newbie question, first time i've looked into modding)

People say to be very wary of static damaging ICs but I personally have NEVER fried anything through static.
I've handled hundreds of ICs and sticks of RAM etc, never damaged anything.
Just to be safe, earth yourself by touching a metal tap or radiator before working on your wii, and avoid grabbing chips on the board, just handle the edges.

Static is something you should be aware of, but not paranoid about. As long as you touch some bare metal before touching the board you should be fine.

Actually the bare metal needs to be grounded. If you touch, for example, a bare metal chair standing on a plastic floor, it is extremely doubtful this will be grounded at all!
You are better off sticking to taps/radiators.
