It appears that the Pioneer 111D seems to be the champion for writing discs. The 112D offers a faster write speed (18X)...like we would even use warp speed for quality. My question is...is the 112D a "replacement" for the 111D or another drive, another chipset etc?
I did a search and only one user had the 112D and didn't seem like much luck with it. Any opinions?
I have a NEC ND-3550A that I absolutely love, a 16X8 DVD DUAL (cheapo OfficeMax), another LG DVD burner & a LG laptop DVD burner.
I own two Wiis and two mod chips coming next week plus over 20+ ROMs backed up. It will be nice to archive my orignals. Getting the correct DVD-burner should complete my puzzle. :p

NEC's are the best...i don't fall into this whole Pioneer is the best nonsense hehe..i mean they are pretty much equal as far as I've heard
I bought a NEC 3520A back in my GC days, and have only used Ritek dyetypes with them, aka RitekG04/G05, and the newer DVD-R 16x RiData branded that use RitekF1 dye...which seems to be a HUGE improvement on their older dyetypes. I have had no issues using that, and on my first shot as well! hope that gives u some help in keeping with your NEC
I would suggest finding the newest firmware/hacked firmware...i'm currently at version 3.07 official for my NEC...which is perfect, does bitsetting and all that..but i still use DVD-R only.
Cheers,

Well, I wasn't sure... I've heard Pioneer in every thread it seems. But to tell you the truth, I have burnt 100's of DVD backups and not a single one has failed me. Chances are if it won't play in my DVD player then its time for a new DVD player.
Backing up game consoles discs other than PC's are new to me.
I just bought a 100 pack of 16x Ritek DVD-R's at Microcenter so I should be good for a while. I haven't checked the media code on them yet to see what exactly they are.
I just now took your advice and search the forums over at the 'The Firmware Page' and found some stuff for the NEC 3550A. Bitsetting, and some media speed ups. Trick the ol' dog new tricks.

I am not too sure on the accuracy of that info, especially since the G05 media has problems.... I would avoid ritek now.

I have used riteks exclusively for 4 or 5 years now, and have been nothing but perfect for me. I use g05's on my wii and all work without issues.

i am unsure which G05 media had these issues, but back in the GC days was using the mini dvd-r's memorex branded from best buy, and office depot full sized, and they were perfect!
