I use pioneer 111D on verbatim 16x.
I can choose 1x in imgburn but write rate is always 4x anyway.

Is there something in control panel you can do?

If your burner does not support 1x burning, it wont work. Even if you can select 1x in ImgBurn, if the lowest speed of your burner is 4x, it will switch to that speed.
Beside that, I assume you want to burn an ISO. I made many tests in the past, and I had the best burning result using 12x speed with 16x Verbatim DVD+R (Yuden 003 Dye).

I did all of mine at 8x on Datawrite discs. All work fine except monkey ball.

It's the media that doesn't support it. I had failures at 4x, but the same backup at 8x (Or above) works fine ;)

I know it sounds dumb, but it helps us to know the full story. What media, precisely, what software version, what errors, what displays the true 4X write speed? thanks.

It is pointless to burn below 4x...

If it doesn't work at 4x, there's some other problem. You should be able to burn games at 4x or 8x with no problems while playing them.

Yeah perhaps there is some other problem, I am having problems with disc read errors on NTSC gamecube games on my pal wii. Only about 70% work (curiously that is the same percentage that the new patcher NTSC-PAL for wii is supposed to support). I am starting to wonder if there are different US-NTSC regions.. hehe..

I use firmware 1.29 for my pioneer.
I dont know more about my verbatims other than that they are newly bought =) Could check exact version later when I get home.
I use the latest version of IMGburn, also tried 7.xx of nero ultra.

Best advice youre going to find. Try updating your drive's firmware. Worsk 25% of the time.
