Hello,
I'm thinking about getting a qoob, and whilst I'm moderatly skilled at soldering I have gigantic hands, and the 5v pad on the installation diagram looks like it might be some trouble. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

All I can say is that if you can solder all the other wires, you will have no problem with the 5v wire.

Hi,

When soldering the 5 volt wire on the pics it looks like you have to solder the wire to a little round disc, is this correct or do you solder it to the side of the little capasitor in the pic.

Thanx.

Little round disc, I have ordered a qoob pro chip and will be creating a tutorial for installing this mod. I plan to make it very user friendly.
Ask if you got any more ? and I'll try to help.

Nope your not doing anything wrong. The file format is impossible to read on a pc dvd-rom drive. Some guys claims with a panasonic hacked firmware you can read it but its all bull. What funny is that I'm in the same shape as you. I am about to strip down my cube naked and I just burned metroid prime 2 and resident evil 4. I should get my chip next week. So I guess me and you are in the same boat (Wishing and waiting for it to arrive)

PS Wonder Why No Ones Thought Of Making A PC Prog That Reads Cube Disc's ? Ahh Well Can't Have It All Can We ? ;)

Thanx Again crumpster, Rez 4 Looks Great.

I am going to purchase a 5/32 nut driver today at a local hardware shop. I believe that will open the cube.

Yeah Use The Qoob Site As A Ref, It's Pretty Easy Step By Step The Heat Sink Can Be Quite Hard If You Haven't Got The Right Size Philips (Tight),

My M8 Had The Right ScrewDriver For The Bottom Of The Cube, Saved Me Buying One For A Tenner. You Can Make One With A Drill, Vice,
Hack Saw, But You Must Really Be Desperate To Go To Those Lengths !.

Well, I've come up short. 3 hardware stores with no 5/32 nutdriver. I guess I'll be waiting on the securebit from foundmy.com to come. errr..

It's actually pretty easy to make your own with a pen and a lighter as some people have suggested. You might think that's a joke, but it really works. :)
As for the Gamecube file system, I beleive that a pc drive can read the discs, there are bytes of data written on the dvds, they just can't interpret them as any recognised file system (Fat32, NTSC). You can use DVDinfo pro to verify the dvds with the original Iso file, and that will at least tell you if your burn is good enough to be read by your pc dvd drive (which isn't too accurate because pc dvd drives are very forgiving), but I beleive that only certain dvd-rom drives support PI/PO error reading. I've seen pictures of some people's readouts on a gamecube disc, but mine always freezes up the program and won't let it close unless I restart.

I actually did this. I used a pen thats thin enough to fit then I used a lighter to heat the tip and put it on the screw then I waited 10 seconds to cool down and started drilling and it worked flawlessly I just had to repeat the adapting of the pen to the screw for every screw. :D
