IBM today has revealed the world's fastest eDRAM chip. Embedded Dynamic Random Access Memory is the same type of memory used in the daughter die of the Xbox 360's GPU.
Embedded Dynamic Random Access Memory is the same type of memory used in the daughter-die of the Xbox 360's graphics processing unit.
This new eDRAM designed by IBM, who helped create the three-core PowerPC central processing unit found in the Xbox 360, dramatically improves on-processor memory performance in about one-third the space with one-fifth the standby power of conventional static random access memory.
IBM’s new eDRAM technology vastly improves microprocessor performance in multi-core designs and speeds the movement of graphics in gaming, networking, and other image intensive, multi-media applications.
