TweakTown is reporting that the rumor of a black Xbox 360 is true because they've viewed a black Xbox 360 at the Taipei game show very recently. What they failed to understand was that it was a DEVELOPMENT KIT only and far from a retail unit.

Unfortunately we couldn’t talk to anyone during the show as there was nobody there but at least you know the rumored black version is indeed alive and real!

My local EB Games location CONFIRMED a Black 360 with 120gb HDD is coming, they have a release date for the end of March with a price of $499 Canadian. Same as the current Premium system. They don't know if it has HDMI though.

The unit depicted in the photos on TweakTown are simply of a Reviewer Kit, just as it's clearly labeled right on the sticker in this photo (http://images.tweaktown.com/imagebank/blackxbox360tpe_02l.jpg) lol. Whoever reported it originally really didn't know what they were looking at. These units have been around since the beginning and are given out to publishers/sites/reviewers. There is no special hardware, larger drives, etc. in these units.

As for the rumored 120GB units with HDMI, there is a very high chance, but March is a little early as nothing has been announced to developers regarding any such unit, and they would be amongst the first to know before retail chains like EB. There have been several MS internal revisions of HDMI boards which makes it seem likely that there will at some point be a new version with it, and the larger HDD is already pretty much a given with the recent introduction of downloadable TV/Movies and the upcoming IPTV. It would be more likely that this type of unit would launch in the fall again for the Q4 sales season.

Yes this is correct, you are almost as wise as both my mom and dad but rolled into one :).

As for the EB employees telling you that a black Xbox 360 is coming for sure in March, they know sweet nothing. They are workers like Mcdonalds, they know exactly whats in front of them, not big strategic decisions months in advance.

If you look carefully, the manufactured date (labeled "MFR Date") is "2005-09-14", more than a month before the North American launch date 11/22/2005.

No offense Zeus, but haven't we known that dev kits where back since...June 2005? In fact, I've stated it in every thread about Black 360's. Or is that the point, that it was just a dev kit? Because...hate to sound like my little sister but...duh. :p
