Illegal chips and other devices used on gaming consoles violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. Sales of counterfeit or illegally obtained games costs the industry about $3 billion a year globally, not including Internet piracy, estimates the Entertainment Software Association trade group.

The USB connector is only used for flashing BIOS, backgrounds, etc. to the QP, nothing else. You'll have to use a combination of a BBA, QP BIOS, and your computer in order to backup your retail games. The above site has guides regarding this process.
Best of luck.
First off dont have the USB cable pluged into your chip unless its turned off.
I had this same problem once I got my chip, so for you ill put it in black and white. You cannot copy your orginal games without the modem, odds are you dont have it. You will have to download them. I wont give you a site, but google "Joh's GC Tracker".
Hope this helps.
