'We beat the Wii,' boasts DICE winners Epic

Epic Games has conducted a clean sweep on the AIAS Awards, claiming they have gained more recognition than the Wii by those reputable folk in the games industry.


"This is incredible," said Epic's CEO Michael Capps at the 10th Annual Interactive Entertainment Awards, held at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas.

"Getting sales is great, making the game we wanted and having people buy it and enjoy it is fantastic. But having our peers say it's the best game of the year? That's insane. We beat the Wii."

The company won eight awards, including Overall Game of the Year and Console Game of the Year, beating off rival titles The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Sports and Eldar Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

First of all, why would they consider Wii Sports a rival?

Secondly, you're a game software company.
How can you beat a console? I understand if you say you beat Twilight Princess, but you didn't beat the Wii itself.

How I see it, they aren't looking at it as a rival genre-wise, they're looking at the game. And for what it is, Wii Sports was a really great title; infact it won the "Outstanding Innovation in Gaming" title at the same awards.

Epic was probably suprised. When they said they beat the Wii, they were referring to the Wii's titles. The system made a huge splash; with the amount of critical acclaim the system has been receiving, if I were in their position, I'd be suprised I won as well. I do understand your point, but it was just something the guy said onstage; it wasn't like it was a written statement or anything.

Thats a great achievement. For a system everyone said had no great games turned around and had a game earn game of the year. Honestly I thought there was no chance against zelda but either way it would have been good since both games were the best games i've played in a while. This will most likely get there feet moving on a GOW 2 faster
