I've had mine modded since Tuesday with a wiinja. Used Imgburn with a pioneer 110d and Ritek DVD-r. I used a a DIL socket to allow easy removal of the chip if wanted.
Works fine here thank you. No pics I'm afraid.

Hi,
Same here, I've installed Wiinja on PAL Wii (France) successfuly on tuesday.
I had trouble at start with backup burnt on DVD+R (my DVD burner doesnt support boot type change)
But it works perfectly with DVD-R burnt with ImgBurn 4x

Sounds like Pinoeer + Ritek + Imgburn is a good combination.

Seems I'm speaking too soon. Myself, and others are receiving DREs. Seems we are back to the GC days. I've found you can eject and reinsert the disc and continue on some games (red steel, Wario).

I've burned many GC games on Ritek G04s and Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R discs and never had a DRE. These were all burned with NeroLinux at 2X on an NEC-3520A.. I don't yet have my Wii modchip.. so I can't speak to any success there.. hopefully next week.
What speed are you guys burning at that are getting DREs?

Got my Wiinja today (I'm in the US). I had my Wii already wired with a socket so dropping the Wiinja in was no problem. Works like a champ. Backups burned on HP DVD+R on a Pioneer 111D are working at the rate of about 80% (approx 4 out of 5 worked). I attribute this ratio to media/burning. I'll try a re-burn on those backups with different media and see what happens.
The chip is not glamourous, but it does work. I have only tried Wii backups at this point. Don't know about GC backups/imports/GCOS.
Can anyone tell me if you can burn wii iso's from a pioneer 107D using Nero?

I'm trying to go that direction when i saw it was an 8 pin socket chip... care to share which 8 pin DIP socket carrier you used... serial# for radio shack... havn't ordered mines yet so im not sure about its size... is it the same size as 8 pin 555 timer chips? thanks...
closest one ive seen is this... http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062604&cp=2032058.2032230.2032265&pg=2&parentPage=family
that should fit the wiinja right... just makes it bulkier i guess...

Installed a Wiinja in my PAL UK Wii today - Thanks cheapmod.net. Burning to 'el cheapo' ProDisc F1 dvd's (£13.00 per 100 spindle from SVP) and all is working great. Will not work if i burn to more expensive media (i.e. have tried Panasonic DVD+R's).
This is a great way for me to try the games i know i would never have bought anyway ;-)

I use TDK DVD-Rs and they work perfectly when burned at 16x. Fujifilm DVD-Rs gave me DRE's when I used them for Wii games and burned at 4x, but when I burn gamecube games on them at 16x speed whey work perfectly.

I installed my CycloWiz with wires, I ran the wires and placed the chip in some open space in the plastic after the drive was re-connected, sorry but i don't have any pic's.
I ran the external wires out under a memory card port and bundled them up after labeling them stuffed them into one of the memory card slots for future use if ever needed.
Im burning on a pioneer 109 @ 4x with Nero and the story part of tony hawk downhill jam sounds horrible and there is some static and popping in rayman.
Im trying CloneCD now.
Not really all that impressed with the cyclowiz, GaryOPA's explanation of how this chip could be updated isn't very encouraging either.

If it works for playing backups, why are you not impressed? That is all we need it to do. ;)

For people with DREs this may be a bit obvious but...:
Use the lowest speed (1x if possible or 2x), because thats what I do with PS2 and Xbox and I've never gotten a DRE where as when I used to burn with 4x I used to get an occasional DRE. And don't do ANYTHING on the computer while burning. I don't know if this will work with the Wii though, I haven't received my modchip yet.
Just my 2 cents. (Can someone try it and post their results?)

Most games i have backed up sound like crap and cut scenes wont play right, i tried 1x with CloneCD on wario ware and the into is still horrible, Game play is just fine but trying to watch a cut scene or intro's to wario ware/ rayman/ tony hawk and super swing golf is like trying to play 1080 on the cube without an audio fix. So far red steel is the only game i havent had a problem with yet.
Oh, and for some reason after i got my Wii put back together it said every game i have ever played was played that day?
I'm FAR from impressed. CycloWiz plays backups but beyond that i think i should have waited.
It 100% needs an update if anything can be fixed.

No, It seems like an isolated few.
also, for the ones having problems, did you rip your own games for your backups or did you DL. maybe a bad source or dump may be causing the problem.

Does everone use pioneer drives to burn? I know only LG drives work for dumping but thought any drive could be used for burning.

Its been my experience pioneer burners burn the best for all systems and will auto set the dvd-rom book type for +r disks.
Im trying new media today at different speeds and all my backups are downloaded as that is easier and faster for me than making my own. Just under 2 hours to d/l, extract and burn.

From reading posts on Wiinewz site they say every drive will be different. You must find the media and burn speeds combination that works best for your drive. They recommend trying Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, TDK, and other name brand media not cheap stuff. Also some seem to have more successes with -R than +R

could it be that DVD-R are alot more stable than DVD+R from what ive remembered backing up movies/console media..
or could it be that you've got a slow hard drive sync than your dvd-writer... as an IT, when burning media's... cpu utilization is not being used... ctrl+alt+del while burning you'll see your cpu usage is 0%. It all depends on you DVD-Burner and Hard Drive's Performance.
Also shut down anti-virus, torrent, or what ever programs that is hard drive oriented when burning... also try defragging your system.

dont blaim it all on cyclon. both cyclon and wiinja would most likely give u the same result. it all boils down to your wii's dvd drive and what it decides to read. the chips mearly inject the code they dont reconstruct the drive laser to read your backup media. you said your chip plays backups and your not impressed, yet your complaining your backups sound like crap? i suggest u try new media since your wii is obviously way too picky about dvd-r's. as for the dates sounds like its due to the battery removal since well doesnt take an idiot to know the chip doesnt affect anything other than the drive controller.

usually when my dvd writers have trouble burning media its due to imcompatibility with new dvd-r's, most dvd cases will tell u to update your drives firmware if possible. usually updated firmware fixes the situation.
if you burn a dvd and u notice it stays at 1 oe 2% for a while before it picks up the pace then u need new firmware.
if u notice you cant burn correctly at say 8x yet at 2x u can burn well then u need new firmware.

I found when wiring and testing the upgrade switch on points X/T that the PDF manual on their site stated that X would be On, anyway if you happen to install the switch and find your chip not working try flicking the switch to off as I did (And yes I did wire the switch the right way around).
I fed the wires to the switch through to the gamecube memory car slot B , I did it this way knowing that I will never use slot B and it didnt require any modifications to the case and can be easliy hidden away when not in use.
Other than the small switch hiccup it worked first time and booted my first backup perfectly.
