Rumor: Wiinja Hex floating around?

Eme mailed in to ask for clarification on whether some HEX code supposedly from the Wiinja is real or fake. We honestly don't know and do not have the file to hand so therefore can not confirm anything. Has anyone out there seen this magical file?

HEX file for the PIC on Wiinja
Could you confirm it or it's a FAKE?

I've found it in a 1.9 Mb package including all the
instructions to install it and the rawdump.exe (don't
know the version...)

the code from the chip may be dumped, with the hex anyone can program their own wii modchip for dirt cheap with a chip programmer... so you should be able to buy a wii chip for cheap from anyone if it's dumped

Damage? Well if you program the chip a wrong way then the chip wouldn't work, simple. It won't damage the circuits of the Wii. (Or you have to do really strange stuff with the HEX and make the chip do completly different things...still then it's hard to wreck the Wii).

The Wiinja is about as secure as a broken front door to an electronics store when the powers out... it will be dumped, just dumping a locked PIC is not as easy as popping it into a programmer and clicking go..

the winja chip is a "cheap ass chip", infact its so cheap its unbelievable.i bought 10 today, which cost me £0.90p each (blank pics) ;).

end of the day a lot of people are getting worked up about the wiinja chip in the wrong way, so its on a pic chip, so what, they are cheap, but non the less any better than other chip that works.

It dont have to have to have a big custom PCB and all sorts of jiggery pokery on it to be better. Its whats on the chip that matters, and how much you are charged for the end product.

what i`m trying to say is, who give a fluck about all the chips, buy the one your happy with, as long as they do what they say they do, and do it reliably who cares.

PICs are reliable, but whats on them isnt always.

I'm not saying that the cyclowiz isn't a better chip, it's cheaper and can be installed with wires in the same fashion as the wiinja. All i'm saying is that I can't take any MaxConsole news on Wii modchips seriously anymore, knowing that they'll say whatever's necessary for the cyclowiz comission from Divineo (i can't blame them though, running a website with this amount of traffic, it's good business practice to sway people to the cyclowiz).

It's just sort of frustrating that if MaxConsole was getting money for Wiinja sales and not the Cyclowiz, the news post (if there was one at all, the news would probably be ignored) would likely read "Malicious hackers steal Wiinja code!! It matters when its not reflected in the price. Desining, printing and manufacturing PCBs costs money. Shoving a chip in a box shouldnt come at a premium.

It matters when its not reflected in the price. Desining, printing and manufacturing PCBs costs money. Shoving a chip in a box shouldnt come at a premium.

I don't care how pretty my mod looks, if it does the job then why does it matter. PCB or no PCB, makes no difference. I agree with you on price. Both chips are overpriced. If I was buying a chip right now I would wait until the price war starts, and then after a while it will settle. Wiinja theoretically should eventually cost less because the cost to bring their product to market, and the cost to produce them, is less.

It's used for testing satellite. Atmega is a type of microcontroller that satellite testers program to emulate the Nagra smartcards used by charlie (aka dishnet).

EDIT: Yeah, it has a wide range of uses... I'm just used to seeing them used for testing dish.

The bootloader offers the possiblity to download application software via the serial UART interface into the internal flash memory of Atmel AVR ATmega microcontrollers, without the need for an ISP adapter. The bootloader and the UART is selected upon reset with two io pins.
