From the new install PDF for CycloWiz:
Introduction
Thank you for choosing CycloWiz !
The installation process consists of 5 solder points for the basic
installation, an optional wire to enable the Chip Disable functionality and
3 optional wires and a switch to enable the Upgradability functionality.
There is a small piece of sticker on the bottom side of the mod. Do not
remove it, it was put there to avoid any short-circuit in case bottom
soldermask gets scratched during the installation of the chip.
To open your console you’ll need a philips screwdriver and a triwing one.

Wow very nice chip...:D
Just clones, people still not understeand this. It's good that they tell this only LATER ... that's what you expect form a good team , yeah?

What does it matter?
There are two options right now for the Wii.
Cyclowiz - Code can be changed, it's cheaper.
Wiinja - Code cannot be changed, it's more expensive.
If you can't figure out the best bang for your buck, too bad.

It's cheaper for the Cyclowiz in the USA.
When I looked at the distributor list for UK on teamcyclops and wiinja website both places in the UK sold the wiinja and the Cyclowiz for 29.95 each. No difference in price.

What wire and solder does everyone recommend using?

for people installing a switch, what kind are they buying and how are they mounting it?

I always use 60/40 32 gauge i believe solder because that's what I have lying around, but you may wanna use thinner solder if possible. As far as wire, I like 30 gauge solid core insulated wire for stuff like this.

Ok thanks. What about a switch? Im not sure where to get components from the UK.
Would this work? http://www.rapidonline.com/productinfo.aspx?tier1=Electronic+Components&tier2=Switches&tier3=Toggle+Switches&tier4=Sub-miniature+toggle+switches&moduleno=30253
every normal on/off-switch should work, right?

A few nice switches. I particularly like the idea of an LED switch, but they have three pins. Do they require another wire to power LED? In fact, alot have three pins. Whats that about? Is middle one non-compulsary?

The third prong is so you can have two (ON) settings. Like, the top and middle will be the active circuit when flipped up. When you flip it down, the middle and bottom will be the active circuit. Of course, if you don't have anything hooked up to the bottom, it breaks the circuit turning it off.
Well, it's something like that at least.

it seems reports are coming out that the sx-28 chip cyclowiz is using will most likely not be able to take an update through dvd....according to the data sheet of the chip...this info comes from some other sites...

If you look how it is set up on the board it can since it is not a one time flash mem.:D

what? i am talking about the data sheet of this chip , it will not let you update because this chip does not update properly with the current setup on the cyclowiz...that is why instead relase the update and the second version of the chip at the same time they just released V2 of cyclowiz by it self. because you can't update sx-28 Reliably on cyclowiz

if this is true, then it's a serious lie to the customers. I mean first it didn't say anything about upgradeable, then it come out and said it's upgradeable... but until they come out with new firmware for people with first generation to upgrade, then it's just just BS. How can anyone trust them if they don't back their claim?
For myself, I ordered the Cyclowiz, but will probably uninstall it for a better modchip when more choices come out.. thank goodness that the Wii console is not hard to open :)

ofcourse the wiinja is cheaper in euros than in the u.s since basically shipping over there is cheaper and shipping to a u.s supplier requires overseas shipping while the cyclo is N.A based. as for the rumor of it maybe being unable to upgrade via dvd, ill believe the manufacutrer since i doubt they made the 3 extra solder wires for no apparent reasonm, and thers no hard evidence to prove their chip cant take an update other than "i heard it from another site"

Well according to some respectable and knowledgable sources (mainly GaryOPA) it is definately possible to upgrade via dvd. The switch is there to supply the correct voltage to the chip to allow flashing. I imagine this will be done through some kind of GC homebrew as you would have to throw the voltage switch back and forth at certain times during the proscess, so there would need to be on screen promts to let you know when to do so. According to what I have read, however, this is a very dodgy proscess, and could very well screw up a lot of chips if it is not done properly. This is the worst way they could have made it upgradable, but it should work. A better method would have been to have the voltage controlled by the chip itself than through a mechanical switch. So can it be upgraded? Yes. As for an update actually being released, it's anyones guess.

do u have to install the switch to be able to upgrade the chip???
Kai_2040
02-14-2007, 08:21 PM
yes, because the upgrade feature is defaultly (i think i made that word up) disabled as it is stealth mode so Big N can't upgrade or brick the chip or console themselves. The only way to turn the chip on for programing mode is to switch the switch on.

The switch is very easy to install if you get a spst toggle that fits in a 1/4" hole, just mount it in the bottom vent. It can't be seen when its in the stand and works great!
