Basic Soldering Question

Is it possible to "un-soldier" a chip? I'm itching to get my hands on one of these but I know damn well that better chips are going to be released (thinks on-board memory).

Sure is
There are 2 options one is a desoldering attachment for your iron, I think they also design ones for this sole purpose its basically a ball you squeeze then let go of with the hot solder near the opening to suck it up

But in my opinion the best way is with desoldering braid you simply put it over the solder apply heat with a soldering iron and it takes it right off

easiest way would be to install it with wires...

i would use wires, DEFINATELY.
de-soldering can damage the connection, or worse the board - especially if you've never done it before and/or don't know what you're doing. it could make things pretty unstable.

so, use wires, and then you'll only have to desolder the CHIP to the wire, not the wires to the board.

I do not belive it would be wise to just leave wires connected to your Wii eher way you go you would want to fully uninstall the old one when your finished with it, and the finer points of desoldering braid is not too hard to master

this is true...but if they are small enough wires in length...and you capped them or taped them so they could never touch any other circuit points (or eachother),...i see no reason to unsolder the wire/board connection, especially if you're just gonna hook a new chip up a week later.
