The intergrated unscrambler is nice, no more fiddling around with the command prompt. :)
EDIT:
Although its nice to have the unscrambler intergrated, its far slower than doing it through the command prompt for some reason...
i use a LG 8164b
and tested V1 with red steel
the tool display's the right name of the disc and then the error occurs
does it work for you?

Because the program use LG drive's debug commands that other drives does not have.
And i was thinking, maybe other drives have needed debug commands too, but u need to make own program for other drives...

Hey everyone,
After reading the glowing review of the CycloWiz and reading about the new version of the rawdumper, I was interested in exploring more about this to potential save my Wii originals from the sticky fingers of my nieces and nephews that can't get enough of the Wii. Is there a website or FAQ with more information of burning of these images and associated tools? Thanks for the news updates.

because wii console has a hitachi-lg drive......
As Toad86 pointed out...
It has more to do with the known existence of a debug command for the Hitachi drive that will read the drive's memory:
E7 48 49 54 01 .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
This may have been borrowed from XBox360 hacking work that was done previously in order to read the drive's firmware. It's a fairly simple concept: issue a read command to the drive (e.g. A8 00 00000000 00000010 80 00) then issue the command to read the drive's memory and dump it to a file.
The developers of this program are doing a nice job. This version is compatible with Windows 2000 (0.4 was not). It appears that starting the program without a disc in the drive may result in an error/program crash.

I bought 2 of these drives, just in case. I have had LG drives go bad quick.
So I wanted to install this drive on my P4 3 ghz machine, but no room, so I installed it on my old Pentium 3 550. So many upgrades just to get .NET 2.0 installed! The question is, does CPU power affect the time of the dump? I mean 7 hours is always better than 50, but 3 is nicer, lol.

I won't let Yokotuna and fogbank do this alone. Why in the hell does Maxconsole refuse to acknowledge competiting sites that are freely developing and contributing to the community? I am talking about Wiinewz.com. They mentioned this in their previous release:
Please note (and spead the word) that you should only be downloading this app from WIINEWZ.COM, WIINJA.COM, or reputable sites like GBATemp. With the 1.2 release, some lesser sites hacked the app and removed our links.
You take news from them, they take news from you, both without credit. Big deal, it's news. But they actually put their research, time, and hard work into coding this application for us all. They put it out for free, and as you can see, they update it frequently to fix problems and feature requests from the community. All they are asking for is a link. Why can't you link to Wiinewz? Do you really want them to stop developing over a link to their site?
All they want is some well-earned traffic for their hard work. They deserve that if you ask me.
Maybe it's just because you're in bed with Cyclowiz, hell if I know. Obviously Wiinewz is a supporter of Wiinja because they mention the site as an official download of Rawdump. But I didn't see a review over there saying Wiinja is a real modchip and Cyclowiz is ****.
I rarely ever come by here, but have recently started to becuase of the Wii. After seeing the Cyclowiz "review" that was more like an advertisement, then seeing this outright failure to post a link or even mention Wiinewz at all, is disgusting.
I now know why I never came here. I'll stick to WiiNewz for unbiased information and true assets to the mod community.

Quick question,
I don't yet have a Wii modchip, so I cannot yet test out the backup of Wario Ware I made, but I did make a rawdump of the game and burned it.. everything seemed to go fine, but after putting the backup in my computer and trying to read it using the raw dump program again, it says the name of the disc is two odd characters (not Wario Ware) and then an error occurs. Is this normal? Is the original Wii disc the only disc that can be correctly read from the Wii disc dumper?
arablizzard2413
02-07-2007, 12:50 AM
No, backups cannot be read using this dumper. When the iso is burned, the data is placed like it is on any normal dvd. Normal gamecube and wii discs have the data section located on a different part of the disc, that's why there were problems reading them in the first place (a section of data on a gcn/wii disc is in the error correction space on a normal dvd, the drive thinks it's bad because it's expecting the error correction).
If you want to make a backup of a backup, just use Nero.

For those of you who are able to run version 0.4 but are having trouble with getting the newer versions of Rawdumper working try booting into safemode as admin.
I couldn't get versions 1.2/1.3/2.0 to work for me, but another user on wiinewz.com suggeted I try booting into safemode as admin. Sure enough using Rawdumper 2.0 I was able to backed up Wii Sports NTSC (~3.5 hours), and Final Fantasy: Christal Chronicles NTSC GCN (~1hour).
FF boots up perfectly in my GC and I was able to play 20 minutes in without a hitch. Don't have a modchip for my Wii so I can't test yet but I am sure this should produce nice Wii backups too.

An attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file."
Just thought i would share something that worked for me. I was having a problem running anything but v0.4, kept getting the error about the pointer and reading it wrong. I fixed the problem by going into device manager, then going to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, then going into properties(on ide channel drive was on) then advanced tab and setting the drive to PIO Only (from dma).
Its run perfect on v2.0 ever since with only a random arithmatic problem if i do a few copies back to back, possibly unrelated?

Hmmm. Go to Windows updates and make sure you have .NET 2.0 installed. I'm not sure if 3.0 works, but .NET 2.0 is all you should need. Once you opened windows update click on Software, Optional on the left to verify that you don't see .NET 2.0.
Some users say as soon as you put the disc in, click Start Durmp. Me, I can click start whenever. Try closeing any spyware apps/virus apps too.

just checked and i already had .Net 2.0 installed. but i think this issue is more related to the raw dump software itself.
the problem i have is that my LG 8164B behaves like any other non-LG/GDR dvd drive when inserting a wii game. it simply does not detect the wii game...
how can i solve this problem? :( (btw.: my drive is manufactured in July 2006, according to the label on the drive)

Well, the software has worked for 100's if not 1000's of people of people so far. I think my drive is May 2006 and I have backed up 15+ games perfectly.
Try an older version of Rawdump..like 1.0, 1.33 or 0.4
Maybe just elimate some possibilities...if you have access to friends machine and you try it out. It could be something with the USB controller on your laptop or the USB external drive. I have experienced some issues in the past.
Also, try it in Safe mode (hit F8) right before you see the Windows Boot screen... a couple people said they got it working that way.

what could be th eproblem? am i the only oneexperiencing the problem? theonly probelms i read are error messages with rawdump, but atleast their drives recognize the wii disc, mine does not...
hey just got mine today also same prom ur having so wats up with this now

burn with clone cd as an image. 4x, since dumper 2.0 dumped it and converted it to ISO already all you need to do now is burn the ISO file with CLONE CD.

Try doing a windows repair. This is whats worked for several people including myself. Go to bios set first boot device to cd exit saving changes. Put in your windows disk. When the repair or install options come up tell it to install. Then when the second option for a repair comes up tell it to repair. ;)
Leave DVD IDE in PIO mode.

Right click My Computer, then left click properties, goto hardware, then goto device manager, then goto IDE controllers, doubleclick Secondary IDE Channel, click the Advanced Settings tab, Your LG drive will be either be Device 0 or Device 1, Change the Transfer Mode to PIO Only. Click o.k. exit out and try it. ;)

Bad idea, PIO mode can have some nasty effects when reading CDs (and burning, but that's not relevant in this case). Basically it just makes your whole drive communicate with your PC a whole lot slower.
So if you do change it to PIO and it works, don't forget to change it back to DMA afterwards.

I've got the right drive, rawdump 2.0, .net 2.0, xp pro.
Rawdump 2.0 says that it backed up my gc disk fine, but when I go to burn it, nero just fails (makes a nice coaster) and Alcohol wants some sector information. anybody have this problem? better yet.. anybody have a solution?

Hi, just like to say thanks for the GREAT program !!
Also i have a couple of questions....
I have the LG drive as stated and my dumps work 100% all the time without problem...my question is:
Are these 1.1 backups of my games (with RawDump 2.0) or is there a chance in future when RawDump 2.1 or 3.0 etc.. is released i my have to dump my same games again due to different/extra read methods ?? or will there just be improvements to read speed / compatibility etc...?
Thanks all :)

Should be exactly the same since its "dumping" or reading the raw data. Should be no difference. The data on the disc will be the same obviously. Hopefully they will be able to speed up the process and still keep everything else the same.

yes.
fire up the program with the disc tray ejected.
close the tray with game disc in place.
If you start it up with the game disc in place, then fire up the program, you might run into errors.
