patch ACWW with trainer

Ok so I have a ACWW trainer which is either a .nds file or .gba file anyways I've been reading ways to patch .nds rom files but seeing as the trainer seems to be a .nds would I be able to patch it, i've tried countless times.

run the trainer then insert your real animal crossing game and do what youwant . i have supercard ds one so i simply run it, and then when the trainer has loaded take out the supercard one and put in the animal crossing game

The thing is I have the ACWW rom not the actual game. But thanks for responding anyhow.

try placing the rom at the root of the card
