Next-gen console war a draw, according to US PSM mag

The US PSM magazines believes it has put both the Xbox 360 and PS3 through some strong testing as it searches for the overall winner. They come to the conclusion that the next-gen war is a TIE. Although one point parted out that the PS3 WINS if you prefer to play single player without an online community.


PSM offers a balanced case for pledging your allegiance to either platform, even roping in the editor-in-chief of the US Official Xbox Magazine to defend Xbox 360. Although, with one section pointing out that "PS3 wins if... You're a loner who doesn't plan to use community features much," it seems the barbed comments have been reserved for PS3.

After admitting that "360 is more impressive [in terms of having 'big' games]" and the Xbox interface "offers a lot more functionality than PS3's," we had to double check the flannel panel to make sure that Peter Moore hadn't sneaked a spot as the month's special guest writer.

well i used to subscribe to psm when it was actually a good magazine. what happened to all the good ones. egm is wrecked, never liked gamepro at all. next generation went under and so did gamefan. i miss good gaming publications.

anyways... it appears most of the good games are going multiplatform so how does sony have the hand up if you are only wanting to play single player games? it seems to me for a much better price you can get a 360 or a Wii. so i really don't see how the PS3 has the upper hand in anything, can someone explain it to me :rolleyes:

actually people during last christmas holiday were tempted to buy xbox360 because of shortage of ps3 and wii. if u think about it, if only sony and nintendo weren't too naive to produce immense amount of their sytem. they wont had lost the first round to m$. right now what i think happening today, ms is rushing to rls good games (thier best games) for the consumer who had bought their system and convincing them that they got the right console. m$ is enjoying their temporary glory.

Any unbiased reviewer would have given it to Xbox 360 if they were to judge them on the console's current merits and not unrealized promises/potential.

the live network has a experience edge over playstations
the ps3 dash wipes out the 360 dash when including its linux ability

well, more than likely most games will delayed from march, once again and there is no magical firmware update that is gonna sell ps3's unless the firmware update includes kaz's credit card numbers so everyone can get a rebate from their ps3 purchase.

i have a ps3 and yeah it's gathering dust, i have one frickin' game for it, r:fom and have downloaded (and bought) most demos from the store and it's still sitting there.

but i'm patient and since i have other systems and games to tide me over, i can wait a month or two. if the system continues to plummet, i'll unload it on someone, not a friend, i wouldn't do that to a friend...

I read this article a last night as my PSM arrived a couple of days ago. the one thing they failed to mention which puts the PS3 way way above the Xbox 360 is that you can run a dual boot system and the fact that Yellow Dog Linux runs and is designed for the PS3... so you have a complete home computer in addition to a game system running it 1080P glory... Um 360 has...................... Yeah thats what I thought!!! they also failed to mention that 360 has about a 30% failure rate due to overheating problems as quoted it "the Independent" a local newspaper in Colorado Springs, CO this week. Microsoft wont put windows on the 360 cuz it will cut into their OS sales profits

its a freaking game console not a computer!, running dual boot system its only for geek or hardcore people i dont have time to use it as computer, i only want to play games!... and guess what.. thats about 80% of gamers. thinking the same(and they use windows BTW).. its fine to see all these options but honestly its the same when people said wii doesnt have dvd as an strong failure point... if i have a dvd player in my home for about 10 years ago... and bought a new better one for 30$ why would i want to use my video GAME console.and worn out to the laser coil... same for my computer...about the failure due to overheating... well i dont see your point... what does this have to do with gaming? its like saying ps3 is bigger so they lost...
i think xbox 360 its now ahead of ps3, but i want to see when the line up for ps3 gets hotter, MGS, GT5, GTA4, LAIR... if they dont come to 360 of course... LoL... and when we talk about power... they are pretty much the same right now.. with some games looking better on 360 but just because the development team did it that way

Thats not proof, you tit. In the article some geeky computer shop worker, says he thinks the failure rate is 30%, it's his opinion, not fact.

But yes the failure rate did seem high early on, but it's well know that MS have long since sorted out the heating problems.

Don't believe we well speak to my mate he works for the local council and he said it was now about 3%, so it must be true.

and if you think being able to run a dual OS is a winning feature than why did Sony only stop at 2, they could have had 4 or 5 OS and really cleaned up. All i and 99% of console owners want is one OS, that enables us to play games, if i want to run anything else i boot up my PC.

PSM was, for a time, the best magazine a person could subscribe to. I loved the psx lid stickers. Gamefan and EGM were also very good. Now Gamefan is gone and EGM is the crappiest magazine ever. Gamepro has proven micro-evolution by becoming a now descent mag, and as far as the "major" magazine go... Gamepro is now the best. I also download Hardcore Gamer and it also is a very good mag.

You really should be able to tell after all 3 have been out at least 2 years. By then you should be able to look at who has the biggest user base and who is getting the most exclusives or best games. By the time the next gen comes out, one of them will most likely be the bottom feeder, trying to scrape anything decent together, the other 2 will most likely share enough market share to be doing good enough.

Nicely put. And since the PS3 is losing exclusives everyday, the 360 has a better chance of pulling it off. As for the Zune and Ipod, you fanboys all do the same thing; jump into other media. The Zune is like Xbox to Windows, it's not the same division of the company. :rolleyes:

Here's an idea, let's compare the PS3 and the 360 as a game consoles. ;) As for the PSP support, there's still next to nothing for it. MGA is the only game worth buying when compairing the PSP to the DS. And as for the Wii, I predict it'll stop selling so well in a year or so. It's a great console, but unless the show a little more hardcore game support on it, they're going to start losing sales.

i don't need a 'low end' unix box in my living room. and since you can't low level program the ps3 under unix due to security issues, it's kinda pointless. and the 1080p is not gonna happen for most games at all. All games that were announced to tout 1080p support, are now only supporting 720p (ie: motostorm)

the ps3 will have a failure rate also, it's still early so don't cant those chickens before they hatch just yet.

the 360 already has a low level version of windows on its box, and who in their right mind wants a real bloated version on it? also there is a version of windows 2000 running on the ps3 now, so at least we can use our ps3 as a 'computer' since we have no games to play on it.
