Well I bought my PSP Japanese Version as FW2.0 from eBay and the UMD drive is now jammed. The button or latch to open the door does not work properly and I can't open the drive manually. Is there a way I can open or fix this easily?

All the manuals and I think the warranty came in Japanese and I don't understand Japanese. Is there a way I could get hold of some English versions of the warranty or is there an easier way to get warranty of the PSP e.g. a local retailer.

Please help me!!!

I don't know a thing about warranty or how it works either so if someone could explain I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Your not able to claim on that warrantly since it left Japan best thing to do is buy a new UMD drive and install it into the psp your self even if you could have used the warranty they would send you a new system or fix your current one and update its firmware proberly to 3.10 its not worth the risk if you want to use homebrew.

the UMD door mechanism isn't directly connected to the UMD mechanism, therefore you probably don't need a new UMD drive to fix your problem.

as your warranty is only valid in Japan you will have to open it up, the door latch is a piece of metal that is part of the frame that holds the screen in place - you'll need to remove the screen - be careful not to damage the ribbon cable clips.

once you've removed the screen and unscrewed the metal casing it will pull away from the motherboard and 'should' at that time release the UMD door - check at this time that the long spring behind the door hasn't moved or broken, however it is more likely that the plastic door open slider has broken or 'jumped' over the metal tag. if it is broken buy a 'spares or repair' PSP off eBay for parts (you can flog what's left) as it's a simple part to replace. if it's jumped then refitting the metal plate should reset it and fix the door open mechanism.

good luck!

edited to say - if you are careful and compentant with a screwdriver then you should have no problem sorting it in about half an hour, you could take it to a shop for repair but be prepared to pay quite a bit to get it done.

So, if the warranty is in Japanese how would I go about filling it in and returning it to Japan?
Can someone please explain to me how I can gain warranty on my PSP and how I would have to ship it or what forms would I have to fill in... BTW i don't understand Japanese...
