View Full Version : New Wii Dumper Released & Connect your Wii drive to PC!
Two new hacking tools for the Wii have been released. First of all a new version of Rawdump has been released, it dumps discs around FIVE times faster and does not require the use of DVDInfoPro. Secondly, Erant released the 'Wii DVD' tool. This program enables you to connect up your Wii drive to your PC for 'testing' purposes.
maybe we could get a firmware similar to kreons for the 162... or similar drive to rip wii games in the future... i hope :)
5 times faster is still what, 10 hours?
good progress though

For those of you who have opened their Nintendo Wii...does Nintendo still use the those screws....which you have to use the 4.5 gamebit?

This is from the readme.
Use a LG-8164b or LG-8163b or LG-8162b dvd drive. It might even work with other hitachi drives. It works if you get a readable DVD name.
I Wonder why mine didint work b4 :S. I probably did something wrong.

Finds wii dvd then dies when trying to get disc name.
Will have to wait. Good progress though.

Reboot the PC and disable one of the drives in the BIOS... might work at any rate.

Try them. It takes around ten seconds before it either gives you the disc name or an error. If you're looking to buy one get one of the ones they wrote the program for. Last I checked they were around $20 on Amazon each.

i checked newegg for the drives i listed and there are like $17-$20, so not too shabby if they work.
i'll check out amazon for the ones mentioned in the readme, i just thought they may be the same drive types.

I have a cheapo DVD Burner from Office Max and I ripped Wii Sports. Tried it with my NEC 3550A and no go.
What program do we burn the ISO's with? My ****.ISO's are 0 bytes and my .wob are gigs. No clue on what to burn the image with.
Yah Yah, I know there's no mod chips but gotta play around with it.

Tried opening the .wod in some kind of hex editor? If its all the same letters again and again and again and again its NOT A DUMP. Just a file filled with junk.
And if its actually a good dump. Then just use the unscrabler tool thats in the same directory as rawdump.

well talking of gc games... i always wanted to do a dump and thus copy my games so i can let the originals copies safe. when i do have a wod file, that has been unscrambled to iso. what should i do?
in fact i tried with my good ol' virtua stiker 3 ver 2002. it has been detected correctly, it ripped great, has been unscrambled and the unscrambled iso was about 650mo. i then passed it under the fstfix proggie to make it 1.5gig again.
the proggie worked great as it detected the chains it was looking for... the problem is my cube didn't detect the game... and thus won't boot it...
any help?
thanks!

I installed a new drive and am not able to dump "Avatar: The Last Airbender"
Drive is detected as:
HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8164B 0L06
I get "Wii disc detected" and "Getting DVD name..." and that's all.
Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz
1GB RAM
Windows 2000 Professional
I wonder if this requires XP? I will try another Wii disc later.

I have installed the trial version of DVD Info and tried the old (0.2) version of RawDump and it is now dumping "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
Disc is detected as "Avatar 06".
tmp.iso reads "RLVE78" and "Avatar 06"
Seems like the newer version is not compatible with my setup somehow?

Moved the drive to a different PC (running XP). It seems to be dumping now using the newer (0.4) version.
Possible incompatibilities with the other PC include Windows 2000, and an add-in ATA133 controller card. Who knows....
Anyway - nice work by the developers.

Use the provided unscrambler program. And No its not that easy. The program actually descrambles the whole image. Not just renames the file :)

Which drive is "the one"
LG Beige E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model 8164BI - Retail
OR
LG Beige E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model GDR-8164BB - OEM
OR which has the firmware: 0L06
I'm leaning towards the OEM one...has more reviews. Some companies restrict certain firmwares to OEM only etc. Any ideas?

Use unscrambler.exe, man. It's a command line application, so you have to navigate to the directory in a dos prompt and type in the command manually. Instructions for proper use can be found here: http://www.ingenieria-inversa.cl/?p=9

Don't use the DOS version. It has a bug that dumps the last block of the disc twice. Use the unscrambler built into the Rawdump app. It is also faster than the DOS version for unscrambling. You can get Rawdump from www.wiinewz.com
