Microsoft has announced that the demo of Crackdown made a piece of history. It became their fastest ever demo download during 24 hours and a week long period.

That's right, beating out top downloads like Lost Planet and Fight Night among others, Microsoft's Crackdown demo, released on January 23, kicked everyone else's asses. Microsoft told IGN that this week the Crackdown playable demo was the most downloaded demo for a 24-hour period and the most downloaded demo during a seven day (week-long) period.

All this and the Halo 3 Beta wasn't even included. Slight jest there, but it's true. Perhaps gamers are finding they like Realtime Worlds' game more than they initially did? Perhaps word of mouth was the key? Perhaps co-op gaming was smartly realized in Crackdown (you could play the demo online with two players)? There are probably many reasons and all of these assuredly pertain.

I think he meant the demo. I played the full game at Gamestop and it was actually pretty damn good. It's nothing like GTA, just so you know. lol. People who have no idea about games like this always call it a GTA rip-off, or a wannabe.

its pretty similar, differences are youre a cop(tho you were a cop in gta1/2) and you have super crackhead powers.

game still looked rather dull, still seems like the only fun of the game would be multiplayer just running around blowing stuff up

While the comparisons to GTA are obvious, personally I think a better analogy would be Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction. In my time with the demo, messing with the gang members was more of a side option to playing with the city.
Gotta admit, the demo moved this from my "possible rent" list to "probable purchase." Did not have high hopes, no doubt influenced by the Interweb whining ("nothing compares to GTA!! you can eat hamburgers and get fat!! Crackdown is teh suxx0rs!!"). Still, I had much fun flipping around the city, and making big boom-booms. The framerate is buttersmooth, the graphics are bright and engaging, the animations and physics are fun, and the city is well layed out.
Don't like it? Don't buy it.
