View Full Version : MS Employee Claims HD-DVD took Eight months to develop
In an interview with a gaming website, a Microsoft employee revealed that the HD-DVD player was developed in around eight months.
How long did development take?
We went from no hardware and no software on 360 to a full product in about 8 months. It was a super-compressed development schedule and the quality is just spectacular. There’s a longer timeframe when you consider the codecs had existed in code quite a while ago.

You know what also took 8 months... the Ipod:
"When Apple came to the table, we dropped all our other customers," Knauss said. For the next eight months, the company's 200 employees in the United States and 80 engineers in India worked exclusively on the iPod, Knauss said.
So 8 months for the HD-DVD drive is not so impressive.

Rofl. Well, seeing as the IPod is actually a lower grade MP3 player which have been around since the last 90's...I highly doubt that the IPod should have taken very long. Ipod is only famous because of people that conform. There are larger, cheaper, and yet just as good of MP3 players out on the market that came around at the same time as the Ipod.
Not saying them making a player of a next generation movie media in 8 months is impressive but...

The thing that has disappointed more me and really this, that is, the fact that the reader Hd.dvd is not included in the console, this is another stings to disfavor....:(

The add on sucks big time. They should have spent a year or more and gotten it right. As of now their is no DTS support and the audio is out of sync or muddy.

I would prefer a extra drive, less wear and tear on the internal drive. It is also replaceable.

Coming in as a underdog, the extra year gave them an advantage to advance in the market, it would have been dumb as hell to wait no matter if it was to "get it right." The PS2 was crap quality yet it sold better because of software and the fact that it came out first (giving it a HEAD START on software).

No DTS is a disadvantage I assume (although the optical out WILL support it), but the audio issues you are having are NOT a HD-DVD or 360 issue, you might want to contact Microsoft customer support about your hardware issues.

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the HD-DVD add on drive. I'm enjoying a lot of HD-DVD moves through Blockbusters online mail service and I'm satisfied with how the movies look and function. It's great.
