Xbox Division in Red, Hardware Est. Cut

Expenses from the Xbox 360 repair and marketing, as well as the launch of the Zune has ensured Microsoft's entertainment division stays in the red despite overall huge company revenues.


The Entertainment and Devices Division reported an operating loss of $289 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2006, relatively flat compared to a $286 million loss a year prior.

Microsoft has said that it wants the EDD to be profitable by fiscal 2008, which begins in July this year.

yeah i had my 360 sent to be repaired and i swear i think all they did was fix what was broken by the over heating and applied the 12v mod to stop over heating. as soon as a game starts its a jet engine taking off and when i go to dash it's a jet landing. noobs

I'm somewhat surprised that the division was this deep in the red with Gears of War selling three million copies. The original XBox had one profitable quarter--the quarter Halo 2 was released--and I thought GoW might be able carry the 360 to its first quarter in the black. Now just think how bad the quarter would have been had GoW NOT sold three million copies.

Unfortunately for the 360, it's stuck in the same business division as that dead weight anchor called the Zune. I'm sure that didn't help.

Okay, so Microsoft blames much of the losses on the costs of launching the Zune. Sony's losing big cash due to the costs of launching the PS3. Meanwhile, Nintendo launches the Wii and immediately reports "record profits." I think one of those companies is doing something right.

what? its true. the xbox project has always been in the red, even ms stated they planed on it being in the red and not to make a profit til xbox2(360) as they were trying to gain market share.

Huh? I never denied that. Any gamer knows that the Xbox was just a test console for the 360. They never planned on making anything from the Xbox, let alone get back what they spent on it.

My post was about how every non-pro MS thread there is, the Sony fanboys come out of the woodwork. And when there are pro MS threads, they do nothing but ***** about how Maxconsole is some biased website yet come back everyday.
