View Full Version : Modding accident....did I fry my Cube?

Hopefully someone here can help...I feel so stupid. :p

I soldered wires to the 12v points on the underside of the power switch, for lighting mods. I didn't add any LED's just yet, was going to finish everything tomorrow. So I had two wires coming out of the 'Cube with the ends stripped.

Stupid me goes to turn on the 'Cube, and accidentally bumped the unit, causing the exposed wires to cross. Everything immediately lost power, and needless to say the unit will no longer power up.

My question is this - can I replace the internal power source from a working unit, or is the motherboard fried as well?

I dunno how the power supply of the cube acts, but when I did a similiar thing with a pc power supply (accidentially forgot to remove the power supply's pcb from a metal plate where I had it put onto when powering it on *G) I just replaced the power supply and the computer worked again - but it might (but does not need to) be different for the cube.

faulty 'cubes go for way too much on eBay too ;) :)

Well, I was able to get the 'Cube working again. It turned out to be the power cord that was zapped. :o

Those things are pretty hard to find new in the store too for some reason. I finally found a used one at an indie video game store in my area.

Your other one should work again...believe it or not I have had that happen, unplugged it for a few minutes then plugged a different cable in, booted it, plugged old cable in and worked again.
